[Yayyyyyy an update! ( ´•̥̥̥ω•̥̥̥` ) ahahah many thanks to the proofreader/editor!!!! For making it even more readable (=´;ω;`=) you’re worked hard!!!!!!!]

Even though the Crowned Prince had fallen weak due to his injuries, he was still a Crowned Prince.

The guards in the Internal Punishment Court did not dare ask any questions as soon as they received Yong Shan’s orders; even sending the significant prisoner – Yong Qi, to the Prince’s Manor immediately, with extreme caution.

Not long after Yong Shan closed his eyes to rest, he heard Chang Defu speaking in a low voice beside his ear, “Crown Prince, His Highness Yong Qi has arrived.”

Yong Shan seemed to have been waiting since a long time ago. He suddenly opened his eyes, and slowly turned his head. His eyes swept across the prince’s quarter, and the first thing that fell in his sights was a pair of feet wearing blue brocaded shoes.

As Yong Shan’s gaze moved up from the blue brocaded shoes, to the calf, to the narrow hip, and waist, he noticed how thin Yong Qi was under the plain garments he wore. Yet even as he wore such plain clothing made out of the most common and inexpensive materials used by the palace, he still gave off an extremely delicate aura. As Yong Shan looked further up, he saw a face that he would never forget. However, Yong Qi lowered his head at this moment, and his black bangs covered his eyelashes, preventing Yong Shan from seeing his expression.

“Yong Qi.”

Under Yong Shan’s gaze, Yong Qi suddenly seemed shocked. Obviously, Yong Shan hadn’t moved at all, but he saw a trace of panic in Yong Qi’s face as he stood there, trembling.

The corner of his mouth twitched, and with a forced smile, he said softly, “Don’t be afraid. Come a little closer. I won’t do anything to you.”

Yong Qi felt like a rabbit falling into a trap with nowhere to hide after suddenly being escorted from the ghostly prison of the Internal Punishment Court to the elegant Crown Prince’s Manor. Even after hearing Yong Shan’s words, he remained unmoving, and just stood still like a piece of wood.

Chang Defu shuffled over with small steps, smiled at the unmoving Yong Qi, and said, “Your Highness Yong Qi, the Crown Prince asked you to come closer. Please move your feet.”

Chang Defu did not say anything threatening, but his statement caused Yong Qi to pull back slightly.

“You dare to run away again?”

Yong Shan’s cold remark that was as light as a needle, rang across most of the prince’s quarters, abruptly intercepting Yong Qi’s footsteps.

Even the fire that had been burning in the furnace for a while, suddenly went out as if it could not stand the sudden cold that filled the prince’s quarters.

“You still won’t come over?”

Yong Qi, who knew that he could not hide, no matter which small corner he crawled into, reluctantly walked over step by step. As he neared the bed, he stood still at an arm’s length away from Yong Shan and refused to move even half a step further, as if nails kept his feet firmly on the ground.

Yong Shan smiled helplessly. “You’re not a woman, why are you acting so shy?”

Yong Shan looked him up and down; his jade-like face remained white as paper. Because of the cold weather, the guards from the Internal Punishment Court especially gave him a castoff fur to wrap around his neck and block out the cold before going out.

“The wound on your neck, is it better now?”

Yong Qi nodded.

Seeing him like that, Yong Shan felt an unknown fire rising upwards. He raised his eyebrows and said, “Are you mute? Can’t you even say a word?”

Yong Qi was taken aback by his sudden anger. He wanted to shrink back, but he didn’t dare to. He opened his pale lips and let out the words, “It’s better.”

It was unknown whether the exposed wound on the side of his neck or the chill in the wind had caused it, but the once pleasant voice seemed a bit hoarse.

Yong Shan was about to get angry, but when he heard his voice, he was startled and couldn’t help but soften his heart. His originally stiff face changed to a kind expression, and gently said, “Sit down and let me have a look.”

Yong Qi hesitated for a moment. He took a peek at Yong Shan, and knitted his eyebrows after a while. He knew that it was impossible to disobey Yong Shan’s command. Gritting his teeth, he went to sit on the edge of the bed and untied the fur wrapped around his neck and his shoulders.

Yong Shan sat up straight from his reclined position to get a closer look at Yong Qi’s wound.

Chang Defu said hurriedly, “Your Highness, please be careful not to tire yourself.” Then he came over and carefully supported Yong Shan from behind.

Yong Shan ignored him, his jet-black eyes looked at the wound on the side of Yong Qi’s neck.

Fortunately, the item he used was not a specialized torture instrument, and the heat was not extreme to the extent that it would burn the skin down to his flesh. After using the Imperial Family’s secret medicine for many days, the wound had mostly healed. The color was much redder than the surrounding skin, and there was already scabbing on the edges. The wound was vaguely shaped like a flower as if someone drew a flesh-colored outline on his neck.

“Does it still hurt?”

Yong Qi refused to meet his gaze and said softly, “It doesn’t hurt anymore.”

But of course whenever the pain would act up, it was extremely painful.

After looking at the wound, Yong Shan’s heart crumbled, but he refused to let it show on his face. He turned his gaze away from the other, gritted his teeth and sneered, “It’s good if it hurts a little. So that you know not to fight against me in the future.” As he spoke, he secretly watched Yong Qi’s reaction from the corner of his eye.

The threat in his words was extremely heavy. He used this tone every time he was angered in the past, and as soon as Yong Qi heard it, he shuddered in fear. Seeing him like this, Yong Shan reached out his hand to touch the other side of his neck that had not been injured, as the feeling of wanting to show him love and affection rose within him.

Yong Qi shifted slightly.

Yong Shan’s face sank. “How many more times do you want to be burned until you feel satisfied? Although this is the Crown Prince’s Manor, there are still torture instruments I can use to punish people who disobey me.”

Yong Qi shivered like a prey who knew he could be hunted to death at any time. He could not do anything aside from sitting in place obediently, allowing Yong Shan’s fingertips to rub his neck. His thick eyelashes drooped down, obscuring the movement of his black eyes. Yong Shan’s fingertips glided along his skin, gently, occasionally pressing the skin with his nails. Each time he did so, Yong Qi’s eyelashes trembled slightly, and his tears were about to roll down from his eyes.

However, even after a long time, Yong Shan still did not see him cry.

Yong Shan played for a while. When he felt satisfied, he then asked Yong Qi, “Are you afraid of me?”

Yong Qi nodded, and felt the fingertips gliding along the side of his neck suddenly stop. Knowing that it wasn’t good to provoke him, Yong Qi shook his head quickly.

“You don’t have to be this panicked,” Yong Shan said with a smile that was not like a smile. “I’d rather have people fear me than see them be happy. You are afraid of me, so how can I not be delighted. You’re finally a little bit of fun to play with these days.”

The fingertips started to move again. This time they changed directions, sliding up to Yong Qi’s lips, and squeezed hard to pry it open.

Yong Qi frowned because of his intense strength.

“Hold it. Where’s your tongue? Don’t turn away, lick it with your tongue.” Yong Shan commanded domineeringly.

Yong Qi did not dare to bite those fingers inside his mouth, and didn’t even want to lick it. He shook his head slightly as he looked up at Yong Shan; his eyes were as gentle as a deer as if pleading.

Yong Shan’s body was weak because of his injuries. After making a fuss for a while, he felt tired again, and felt that such bullying was really dull, so he took out his fingers and leaned his back against the headboard.

He calmed down after leaning back on the soft pillow set by Chang Defu, and then said in a low voice, “Alright, I won’t embarrass you any further. But you also have to be a little conscientious and treat me better. I’m thirsty, bring me a bowl of hot tea.”

Chang Defu was smart and quick-witted. By this time, he already knew what was going on, he hurried to prepare a bowl of hot tea, then brought it over, and placed it in front of Yong Qi.

Chang Defu said, “Your Highness Yong Qi, please pick it up quickly, the Prince is waiting to drink it.”

Yong Shan’s gaze only stopped on Yong Qi. Seeing that he was still motionless, he lost the will to mess with him and smiled bitterly. “Forget it, since when has he ever served people? Chang Defu, come and give me the bowl.”

Chang Defu obeyed his command.

However, a pair of white jade hands stretched out from the side and took the bowl of hot tea.

There was a flash in Yong Shan’s black pupil, and he was a little surprised.

Holding the tea in hand, Yong Qi hesitated. He raised his dim eyes, and glanced at Yong Shan again.

Yong Shan couldn’t help smiling, and said, “Do you want me to drink it or not?”

Yong Qi stared at him with clear eyes, and after thinking about it, he finally handed the bowl of tea back to Chang Defu. He lowered his head, and dared not make another sound.

Yong Shan had a strange expression; it was neither light nor heavy, and even if someone slapped his face at that very moment, it would not anger him. He was neither mad nor sad, but if he probed it carefully, it was more like he felt at a loss.

He stared at Yong Qi with a dark face. But his eyes gradually softened and looked kinder. He sighed and said, “I also didn’t bring you here to serve me tea. It’s fine to just accompany me to dinner tonight.” He slowly leaned back.

Chang Defu knew he was tired, so he came to help him lie down.

Yong Shan opened his eyes, he looked at Yong Qi sitting on the side of the bed, and told Chang Defu, “Keep your eye on him, and don’t let him out of the door. We are about the same height. Find me two sets of newly made clothes, choose light-colored ones, no need to be too flashy, and also prepare refreshments for His Highness Yong Qi as well.”

Every time he said something, Chang Defu would respond respectfully. Later, he asked for instructions, “His Highness Yong Qi will accompany you for a meal in the evening. Is it necessary to prepare the usual dishes in the palace’s main kitchen, or do we prepare separately in the small kitchen? I just do not know His Highness Yong Qi’s reference.”

Yong Shan squinted to look at Yong Qi.

Originally, Yong Qi planned to look like it had nothing to do with him, but when he found that Yong Shan was looking at him again, he couldn’t help but shrink as if he was afraid injury would befall him.

Yong Shan was frustrated and snorted. “You don’t need to care about his preference. Anyway, prepare more light dishes. See if you can get some good bamboo shoots and tofu, and send someone out to buy two pieces of pearl cakes from Rong Xiangji in the capital. Remember, ask them to make them fresh, don’t take those that have been left to rest for two hours. In winter, the dishes should not necessarily be less, but they should be cooked lightly, and add some shredded chicken with spinach…”

He casually mentioned a few other dishes, all of which were dishes Yong Qi liked to eat in his own palace.

He talked while staring at Yong Qi relentlessly, only to feel that he was worse than a pig and a dog. He gritted his teeth, feeling stupid for loving and hating at the same time, wanting to spoil him one moment and then hurting him the next.

After giving Cheng Defu his instructions, he suddenly stretched out his hand and pulled Yong Qi’s wrist fiercely. Yong Qi was caught off guard after being pulled all of a sudden; he fell to the ground, then hurriedly struggled to get up.

Yong Shan gritted his teeth and threatened harshly, “You behave and sit on the bedside for me. If I open my eyes and don’t see you, let’s see how I torture you later!”

Seeing Yong Qi shudder in fear, and not daring to escape, he closed his eyes and went to sleep feeling content.

This sleep was sweeter than any sleep since he was injured.

After having a nice rest, Yong Shan felt better, even comfortable. He slowly opened his eyes in a daze, and after seeing Yong Qi on his bedside, head drooping with a pensive expression on his face, his heart became more joyful. He was taken aback after realizing that it was quite late, and the sky had already darkened completely. With a start, he sighed and suddenly sat up from the bed.

Yong Qi was startled by the sigh, so he stood up reflexively. He stared at Yong Shan, unaware when he had woken up, and what was going on with this moody younger brother of his.

Chang Defu was also stunned by Yong Shan’s sigh, and hurried over and asked more cautiously, “What’s wrong, Your Highness? Do you have any orders?”

Yong Shan shook his head and slowly came to the edge of the bed, and smiled at Chang Defu. “I actually slept until this late. What time is it? Is dinner ready?”

It was rare to see Yong Shan in such a good mood. Chang Defu was secretly curious and replied with a flattering smile, “Replying to Your Highness, it has just passed the Hai* period. The food is ready and is being kept hot on the stove. Would you like this servant to ask them to serve it now?”

(T/N: *9pm-11pm)

“Hurry up and serve the food. Do you intend to starve us to death?” Yong Shan scolded him, yet his face was full of smiles, and then he turned to look at Yong Qi. “I have made you go hungry on your first day of your stay, why didn’t you wake me? Aren’t you afraid of starving to death? Let me see if your stomach is growling or not.” He chuckled and jokingly stretched out his hand to caress Yong Qi’s belly.

Yong Qi did not expect his move. Before he even thought of dodging, Yong Shan had already touched his belly. The sides of his lower waist were sensitive to the touch, and Yong Shan’s caresses were ticklish, making him unable to hold it and laugh. Then he remembered who was in front of him and suddenly suppressed his smile with embarrassment.

Yong Shan was very happy. “Interesting. I’m afraid that doing this through your clothes will not be effective. If only you didn’t have any clothes on…” He realized halfway through his remark that he shouldn’t have mentioned this, and suddenly stopped.

Then he looked up at Yong Qi.

Sure enough, Yong Qi’s face was as white as paper. Although he did not back away, an invisible ice wall seemed to have suddenly appeared between the two.

Seeing Yong Shan cast his eyes at him, Yong Qi turned his face to the side and refused to look at Yong Shan.

The atmosphere in the room, which was not bad at first, dropped to the coldest it could go.

Yong Shan sighed, secretly scolding himself that he had committed a sin and did not deserve to live, knowing that it was too late to take back his words. He did not bother to explain any further, he reverted to his usual cold and stern expression, and stopped smiling. How come he was so stupid? He was lower than a pig and a dog to mention something similar to what he had done in the Internal Punishment Court at this time? Thinking thus, he turned his head to Chang Defu. “Chang Defu, what about the preparation? Why is it taking so long just to set the meal?”

Chang Defu, who had been serving him for a long time, knew that something was wrong as soon as he heard his tone. He secretly groaned and complained about Yong Qi, unable to make out what he did to provoke this hot-tempered Crown Prince again. What bad luck, everyone was sure to suffer now that the Crown Prince’s mood has suddenly changed. Chang Defu hurried over and replied with a smile, “It’s ready. It’s all set. I have instructed the servants to place the table next to the carved window in the side hall, so that Your Highness can appreciate the plum blossoms in the small courtyard while enjoying your meal.”

Yong Shan said with a stern face, “Who has the spare time to appreciate plum blossoms? To fall into debaucherous life with no desire to improve oneself, am I such a person?” After he finished speaking, he remembered that Yong Qi liked to appreciate snow and plums blossom the most. He was in a bad mood, and after venting his anger on Chang Defu, he swept his gaze at Yong Qi. Chang Defu felt wronged; originally it was the Crown Prince who had especially selected the supper to please Yong Qi.

However, where could Chang Defu dare to say that he was being wronged? He still asked with a smile, “So… should I have the servants move the meal inside?”

“No need.” Yong Shan lowered his head. After thinking for a while, he laughed instead. “With you moving the food around like this, when will I be able to eat it? I’m afraid that you are also secretly cursing me for being capricious.”

Chang Defu replied that he did not dare.

Yong Shan waved his hand and said, “Stop talking nonsense, let’s eat.”

A few servants came up immediately and carefully took Yong Shan to the dining hall. Yong Qi was still standing in the same place. When Chang Defu saw that he didn’t want to move, he quietly walked to his side, lowered his voice and said with a smile, “Your Highness Yong Qi, please have mercy on us lowly servants. Don’t make the Crown Prince angry anymore. If he gets annoyed, I don’t know how many people are going to bear the consequence. Your Highness should do a good deed.” While begging, he actually dragged Yong Qi to the table and sat him down opposite Yong Shan.

The food was still steaming and fragrant. Yong Shan glanced at the dishes; they were all according to his own orders, and everything that Yong Qi usually liked to eat. He secretly praised Chang Defu in his heart for a job well done, then stared at Yong Qi who sat opposite, and asked in a deep voice, “Why don’t you eat? Do you still want to play with your temper?”

Seeing his expression, Yong Qi knew that his anger was imminent, so he picked up his chopsticks and casually picked a piece of winter mushrooms, stuffed it in his mouth and chewed, then swallowed without even tasting it.

Yong Shan was smart, he could guess what he was thinking. He looked at him coldly for a moment, then sighed inwardly. No wonder he couldn’t taste the food properly, he was afraid to sit and eat with him. Perhaps Yong Qi would have a better appetite if he was not around.

Yong Shan could not help but feel discouraged. Despite feeling discouraged, he still worried that Yong Qi would treat himself poorly. His body was already weak and became even weaker when they detained him inside the Internal Punishment Court. He would fall ill sooner or later without restoring his diet.

As Yong Shan worried about Yong Qi’s diet, he seemed to have lost his appetite as well. He frowned and after eating two bites, he put down his chopsticks, and said, “I’m no longer eating. These dishes do not suit my taste.” Then he asked the attendant to help him up, pointed at Yong Qi who also put down his chopsticks and warned. “I am no longer eating, but I did not allow you to do the same. These are all your favorites, you eat them all up for me. Chang Defu.”

“Here, Your Highness.”

“Watch him for me.”

“Yes, Your Highness.”

“He is not allowed to put down his chopsticks until he is full.”

“Yes.” Chang Defu replied, and asked in a low voice, embarrassed, “Your Highness, how does this servant know when he is full?”

“Fool! Don’t you know how to judge for yourself?” Yong Shan cursed lightly, staring at Yong Qi with his jet-black eyes.

Being stared at too much by his gaze, Yong Qi had to pick up his chopsticks again, and only then was Yong Shan satisfied. He returned to the inner room, saying, “Lying in bed all day long; the more I lie in bed, the lazier I become. Let me sit on a chair for a while.” Just after he sat down, his stomach suddenly grumbled. Yong Shan, as well as the two attendants, were surprised when they heard the growling sound made by his stomach.

The two attendants endured and did not dare to laugh.

Yong Shan laughed at himself and said, “Go get me a bowl of rice, a bowl of ribs noodles, and a bowl of hot soup. I’ll eat here.”

The two attendants responded quickly, and went out in a hurry, before chuckling and laughing.

Yong Shan waited inside, thinking that Yong Qi should be eating happily, without him keeping watch. But before his food arrived, a servant came over to report, “His Royal Highness Yong Sheng requests an audience.”

“Oh?”

He had yet to eat that night’s meal, and yet another bad guy has come to ruin his appetite.

Yong Shan stared at the roof for a while, and said to the servant, “Tell him that my wound is hurting, and has just gotten a little better. I haven’t eaten yet, so ask him what brings him here. If it’s not urgent, tell him to come back tomorrow.”

The servant left to deliver his orders, but soon came back with another report. “His Royal Highness Yong Sheng advised it was an urgent matter, and requested the Crown Prince to spare him some of your time. Just listening to him while you eat your meal was also fine.”

Yong Shan said, “What urgent matter does he have aside from Yong Qi? To place Yong Qi under his charge, he is not qualified!” Grinding his neat white teeth, he sneered for a while, and said, “Let him in. I will see how he begs me.”

The servant went out and led Yong Sheng inside.

Yong Sheng had been proud of his recent successes, and he basked in the limelight in front of his Father. After the Emperor awarded him some authority, everyone felt that the events leading to his appointment were indeed blessings in disguise; he even had control of the Internal Punishment Court.

When he arrived in front of Yong Shan, he gave a graceful salute and said with a smile, “I am so happy to see that Your Highness the Crown Prince is getting better. I understand that the Crown Prince is recuperating from his injuries and should not be disturbed casually, but this younger brother does not dare to treat my responsibilities lightly and would like to ask the Crown Prince for instructions regarding this matter.”

“Come on. Sit down, and talk.” Yong Shan asked him to sit down and looked at him gently. “I know all about the things that Father Emperor has entrusted you. You have always had your own opinion, and you can do whatever you want without having to seek my advice. What’s wrong? For which matter do you seek my advice?”

“Exactly.” Yong Sheng bent down and sat up straight on a chair. “Father appointed me to take charge of the Internal Punishment Court, which used to be under the Crown Prince’s control.”

“Um.”

“I checked the prisoners’ list, and it seems that one is missing.”

“Oh?” A smile, barely noticeable, appeared at the corner of Yong Shan’s mouth. “Isn’t it a big issue that the Internal Punishment Court lost a prisoner? Why don’t you immediately report it to Father? At least the head of the Internal Punishment Court should be taken down and interrogated severely. Have you questioned Zhang Cheng?”

“I did.” Yong Sheng, who seemed to have come prepared, still maintained his smile and said, “If the prisoner really did escape, this younger brother would have reported directly to Father, and I only said that there seems to be one missing, I didn’t say that one was indeed missing. As soon as Zhang Cheng confessed, I understood that it was the Crown Prince who let him go.”

“I understand.” Yong Shan patted the table lightly, pretending to be surprised. “So it seems you were referring to Yong Qi.” After speaking, he smiled, and said in a deep voice, “I have personally investigated his case and found that the charges against him are false. Which was why I gave the order to release him from the Internal Punishment Court. Why? Do you suspect that my decision was unjust?”

“No, no.” Yong Sheng said, “Since the Crown Prince personally tried this case, the Crown Prince’s decision regarding this matter is absolutely clear.”

Yong Sheng’s confident response, which was neither humble nor overbearing, puzzled Yong Shan. This rascal Yong Sheng must be hiding something.

But what could it be?

After thinking for a while, he had vaguely guessed something, and his heart became unsettled.

Things are not good!

He listened to Yong Sheng’s upright and outspoken words. “When the Crown Prince was in charge of the Internal Punishment Court, you had personally tried Yong Qi’s case and handed down a decision that no one dared to refute. However, I am afraid that the Crown Prince has concealed valuable information relating to Yong Qi. I have received word that Yong Qi secretly sent a letter to someone on the outside while during his imprisonment in the Internal Punishment Court. Your Highness Crown Prince, if I may be so bold, did you not know the rules restricting prisoners from sending letters to anyone outside?”

Yong Shan’s eyelids twitched. Knowing that he had guessed right, he said calmly, “I know the rules of the Internal Punishment Court very well.”

“Yes.” Yong Sheng slowly sighed, and then said, “Prisoners inside the Internal Punishment Court, whether they are found guilty or not after their confession, are not allowed to send out any form of communication to prevent them from colluding with outsiders. And if the recipient of the letter is the concubine inside the palace, the consequences will be grave. The first Emperor mandated this, and collusion is a capital offense.”

“It depends on the situation.” Yong Shan smiled and intercepted his words. “Even if the concubine is guilty, it also depends on what kind of relationship they have. It is not enough evidence for treason if the letter only expressed the love of a mother for her child or the kindness and longing of a son for his mother.”

“Oh? How did the Crown Prince know that Yong Qi’s addressed his letter to Li Fei? It can’t be that the Crown Prince allowed the transaction, can it?”

Yong Shan knew that it was a trap, and he’d be charged with conspiracy if he nodded his head. Perhaps he would even become the second Yong Qi the next day. Yong Shan said coldly, “Do not push this matter on to me. I believe you know the inside story better than I do. Weren’t you the one who handed me Yong Qi’s letter on a previous occasion? In my opinion, this matter is not of utmost importance to warrant my advice. You may handle this matter as you see fit. I will take this as you doing me a favor, and I shall repay you this favor in the future.”

Since he dared to come here and have a showdown with Yong Shan, Yong Sheng was not in a rush. Seeing that Yong Shan did not fall into the trap was also within his expectations. Before he came here, he had many long back and forth discussions with his mother, Jin Fei, along with a few confidantes, and they were well-prepared and thoroughly thought of all possibilities. Since their first trick did not work, he immediately resorted to their second trick, pretending to smile, he said, “How is the matter this time the same as the matter last time? He wanted to send out a letter in the past, but since I intercepted it on time, we prevented a conspiracy from happening. This time, however, Li Fei successfully received the letter, colluding between mother and son is evident. Ai, I really don’t know what to do. Besides, this doesn’t just involve Yong Qi alone…” He changed his tone and lowered his voice, “In the Internal Punishment Court, passing along a letter is not something ordinary prisoners can carry out, let alone hand a letter to Li Fei. Does the Crown Prince have any idea who was responsible for the delivery?”

Yong Shan took a deep breath, knowing that the other party had the upper hand, he could only calmly say, “I also want to know who has such an ability. Since the Fifth brother is so capable, he must have already checked it out.”

Yong Sheng rubbed his hands and said, seemingly embarrassed, “The investigation has indeed identified who did it, but I am afraid that if I tell you, older brother, the Crown Prince will be sad.”

Yong Shan stared at him for a long while, and suddenly his shoulders trembled. He laughed out loud, and after laughing for half a day, he stopped and looked at Yong Sheng as if looking at his prey, and asked coldly, “Do you have the letter in your possession?”

His sudden outburst stunned Yong Sheng. But after a while, Yong Sheng nodded, his eyes regaining the sober and sharp expression he initially had to confront Yong Shan.

“Yes.”

“How about a witness?” Yong Shan casually said, “I assume you have found them too?”

“That’s right.”

“Good.” Yong Shan praised. “So, you are here to discuss your conditions with me.”

After being found out, Yong Sheng no longer needed to pretend. With a thumbs up, he said solemnly, “The Crown Prince is so bold. Aside from Yong Qi, this matter also involves Yong Lin. According to my opinion, I am afraid that the Crown Prince has to take part in this discussion to prevent the worst from happening. Isn’t the Crown Prince afraid?”

“What am I afraid of?” Yong Shan asked back. “You have both evidence and the witness, instead report this directly to Father, you came to see me, it is apparent that you came to ask me for something. Since this is the case, then you are not willing to help me hide this matter. I am also the Crown Prince; I still have my way of doing things.”

“Yes.” Yong Sheng laughed. “There is indeed one thing I want to ask the Crown Prince.”

“Say it.”

“It’s still the matter of my uncle…”

Yong Shan said, “This matter with your uncle, hasn’t the sentence been carried out already? Father did not take his life, but fined him a corresponding amount of silver instead. Does the Fang family not possess this little amount of money? If not, then I will write a note; you can tell your uncle to take it to my warehouse.”

Ai, my uncle is quite troublesome. Not only myself, but even the Crown Prince is unable to stand it. What can I do? In the end, my mother only has her older brother.” Yong Sheng sighed and approached Yong Shan and said, “The Crown Prince has not been to the main court to observe political affairs for some time because of his injuries, and thus did not know about the recent affairs involving my uncle. Imperial Scribe, Gong Wu Hui accused my uncle in front of Father Emperor, saying that my uncle secretly recruited rebel soldiers, and went around with bad intentions, inquiring about the birthdates of Father and the princes. Crown Prince, listen, how can this charge be taken lightly? It is equivalent to ransacking the family treasures and exterminating the clan, scaring my mother to death.”

As a prince, Yong Shan always had eyes and ears scattered across the imperial grounds. Although he did not attend the court meetings in person, of course, news of this kind would still reach him. He casually said, “Father did not take his words to heart; he is a wise monarch, so you shouldn’t worry too much. He even said that Gong Wu Hui was out to frame the imperial family’s relatives, and immediately sent him to prison.”

“How can I not worry? The Crown Prince is the only person who knows Father’s temper best. In eight out of ten chances, if Gong Wu Hui is released, he is bound to  resume his post in the future. With him still holding a grudge, if one false accusation is not successful, he will make a second false accusation, then a third. With his talent, will Father not be influenced to believe it in the future? This matter… I still need to beg my older brother, the Crown Prince, for help.”

Halfway through Yong Sheng’s awe-inspiring speech, Yong Shan already understood what Yong Sheng was asking for in his heart;  he lowered his face and said, “What do you mean?”

“It’s to get rid of the grass, destroy its roots ah” At this time, no matter how unpleasant things were, he already said it. Yong Sheng swallowed, gently moved everything down to a knife in his hand, and said cruelly, “Make it so, such that Gong Wu Hui is unable to get out of prison.”

Yong Shan’s eyes shone brightly, as soon as Yong Sheng finished his remark. Yong Shan’s gaze swept through him like a sharp sword and almost rendered him breathless. But since the matter had reached a critical moment, Yong Shan’s intimidating look to subdue him. Yong Sheng stiffened his neck, gritted his teeth, and said, “It is better to be broken jade than an intact tile. I came here with that thought in mind. It will be to my advantage to rush things a bit and let the older brother, the Crown Prince, dismiss that despicable official for good, rather than wait for him to plot against my mother’s family. If the older brother, the Crown Prince, agrees to help me this time, my mother, and the Fang family would be grateful until the day we die. Even if I die, I will help the older brother, the Crown Prince, to conceal this matter.”

Seeing Yong Shan didn’t nod his head, he deliberately said that it was a matter of concern.

Yong Shan chuckled as he listened to Yong Sheng say those words through gritted teeth. The sharp light in his eyes disappeared suddenly, and he was gentler than ever. He patted Yong Sheng’s shoulder, and said, “Fifth brother has said something really silly. All of us are princes, we are noble and precious, like gold and Jade. Why say it’s better to be a broken jade? Those lowly officials do not even compare to our nails. It wouldn’t matter if one or two of them died. Do not fret; I will definitely help you.”

This turn of events happened too fast, and Yong Sheng was in a daze for a while, unable to accept the Crown Prince’s words at face value. After his stupor, he asked doubtfully, “Is what the Crown Prince said true?”

One word is worth nine sacred tripods* is the Crown Prince’s style. Why would I lie to you?” Yong Shan smiled and said, “After all, killing one Gong Wu Hui will ease the fifth brother’s worries, and besides, I will not suffer any losses in this agreement.”

(T/N: Words of enormous weight.)

Only then did Yong Sheng realize that he had agreed. His face was full of joy, and he took advantage of this favourable opportunity to gain some benefit, asking, “When will the Crown Prince take action?”

After Yong Shan pondered, he said quietly, “Don’t worry, he can’t get out of prison. Just for my two silly brothers, I won’t let him come out alive”

After speaking, he let out a light sigh.

Chapter 17: WiFi Signal

Proofread/edit: adlt1226

[(=´;ω;`=) good evening, good night, and good morning to all the Bl readers out there. I’ve made a new updating schedule of the 3 novels I’m working on starting next month. Since I and the proofreader/editor are busy working with our main jobs, the updating will be a little slow but steady on time (at most, we’ll try our best). I will announce the next date of publishing at the end of each chapter, so that you can look forward to it (probably). Btw, Taizi is the most hardest of them all, with lonnnnger chapter and words usage. Still, really thanks to the proofreader/editor a lot for taking your time helping me out (and suffering with me…). ヾ(=`ω´=)ノ”]

It was rare for Gua Pi to take the initiative to chat with him. It had been 3 years since they started working together, and other than work, Ti Xiao didn’t really have any reason to talk with Gua Pi. However, befriending him also wasn’t such a bad idea, Ti Xiao could also use this opportunity to ask more questions about his serialization. But maybe Gua Pi really did need his help in solving his life trouble.

Between the Gua Pi who talked about his own life, and the Gua Pi who talked about work on a normal day, always reminding him about the manuscript, these two personalities of his seemed completely different.

Editor·Gua Pi Pi: Aiya, this high school classmate and I used to study painting together. Our friendship at that time was like a piece of rice paper and a bottle of ink ah.

The editors of the comics platform had to be good at drawing in order to communicate well with the authors and understand their work.

Wise and Courageous, Da A’Ti: Then what happened after the two of you met?

Ti Xiao became a little absent-minded as he chatted and drew at the same time. He made several mistakes while drawing the body structure, and the entire drawing came out wrong numerous times, so he just gave up and concentrated on chatting instead.

Editor·Gua Pi Pi: After meeting, it’s…Ai, it’s actually quite embarrassing. I liked him when we were in high school, but he beat me up at that time hahaha, but that still didn’t stop me from liking him ah.

A strong M wind came across the screen. Ti Xiao wiped his nose with a tissue, and as he continued reading Gua Pi’s messages, he considered whether he should plant an orange tree for him.

(T/N: masochism. ‘Gua Pi is an M! Haha’)

Editor·Gua Pi Pi: Not only did I see him today, but I also saw his little boyfriend. You tell me, how can I not be angry?

Ti Xiao nodded his head in sympathy. If he saw Xiao Yao outside with someone, no matter whether it was a man or a woman, whether they were his boyfriend or girlfriend or not, his lungs would definitely explode.

There was a beep sound from the microwave, and Ti Xiao stood up to retrieve the food he placed inside for reheating. When he came back, he received a number of voice messages from Gua Pi one after another.

Aiya, typing is so tiring, I’ll just send you a voice message instead.”

Instead of using his original voice, he used a lolicon voice via the voice changer function that came with the chat software.

Ti Xiao shuddered when he heard the delicate sounding voice that came out after processing.

Because the two had followed each other on Weibo, Ti Xiao knew that his editor was male who loved men, and had already come out of the closet like himself.

“Let me tell you this. His boyfriend is so short. I guess he’s only 1.73 meters tall, zezeze

The meatball held between Ti Xiao’s chopsticks fell into his bowl, the soup almost splashing all over himself.

What’s wrong with 1.73? Has any 1.73 eaten your rice?

Ze your head.

Ti Xiao put a mouthful of rice in his mouth and swallowed it a little angrily, telling himself if you don’t grow to 1.85, you will become an orange!

Wise and Courageous, Da A’Ti: Then do you still like him?

“No, the timing is wrong, the location is wrong, and he already has a boyfriend. Why would I want to be mixed in with them ah~ wouldn’t it be troublesome?”

“Although he beat me up when we were in high school ahahaha, our relationship was still very good. Maybe it was because I didn’t tell him that I liked him.” Gua Pi’s words seemed to imply that when someone beats himself up was like a glorious thing.

“Later on, he went abroad and left without warning. He stayed quiet for some reason and didn’t contact me, not even once. To have met him by accident at this time is really unexpected..”

Accidental meeting is fate ah, like whenever Xiao Yao and I would meet everyday. Ti Xiao nodded at the thought.

Gua Pi sent another one-minute voice message, and Ti Xiao listened quietly. Just when the voice message was about to end, a piercing cry sounded in the background, along with a curse from Gua Pi.

Ti Xiao hadn’t responded yet when Gua Pi sent another message.

“Wtf! That Duck Neck in Despair! Has he harassed you before?”

Hearing this, Ti Xiao thought of the two sentences Ya Bozi sent him that day at noon, but he had deleted both.

But isn’t Ya Bozi a sister?

Wise and Courageous, Da A’Ti: What’s the matter? How can a woman harass you? Aren’t you the one harassing him

(T/N: don’t scold me. The first sentence TX used the word woman. The last, he used 他 (he/him), so I’ll just translate according to the text.)

“Fart!” Gua Pi sounded a little agitated, so excited that he forgot to turn on the voice changer, and his original voice came through directly.

“He’s a man! A man! Did you think he was a woman because he goes around talking in a cutesy way in his messages?” Gua Pi said, “Damn! He always sends me pictures of himself; it’s either his abs, his waist, or his ankle. Offending this editor! Does he not want to live anymore?”

There was still no change in his voice.

“But.” Gua Pi’s tone changed. “It’s quite appealing hahahaha.”

Ti Xiao felt that the voice was a little familiar, but couldn’t remember where he had heard it, and how he was familiar with it. He put down the bowl in his hand and wanted to reply to him with something.

“F*ck! Did I forget to change my voice just now?” His voice was a little embarrassed as he hurriedly sent a haha. “Forget about it, forget about it.”

Gua Pi then put on a delicate loli-tone, and the two started chatting seriously about their work for a while. They discussed his serialization as well as some of the unreasonable parts and scenes of the story.

It was already 10 o’clock when they finished chatting. The sky was already dark, the food had gone cold again, and Xiao Hulu was already sound asleep beside him.

His readers persevered on Weibo, yelling and causing a commotion several times a minute as if they were in a demonstration, demanding someone to drive a car.

Because of his cold, Ti Xiao’s voice sounded a little uncomfortable, and now he felt a little bit weak even after taking a rest.

He thought about Xiao Yao as he sat at the table holding the pen, then quickly drew the figure of a man’s back in 10 minutes.

Only half of the back was drawn, while the other half was left blank. The outline was not smooth and the edges were incomplete. The image showed a contour of a back with snowflakes falling down like rain showers, and the bottom of the picture was filled with white flowers.

It also looked like a person blooming out of a flower, and carried with it the smell of fresh snow.

Wise and Courageous, Big A’Ti: Sorry, sorry, I’m really uncomfortable today because of a cold. The unicycle that I promised will be handed to you all later.

Today your father has brought the back of a Long-legged Biscuit for all of you【Image】

The Long-legged Biscuit himself was still at the hospital. His phone vibrated after receiving a notification that the author Da A’Ti had posted something on Weibo.

Long-legged Biscuit?

What is this nickname? Why do I get a weird feeling from the painting style of these two people whom I’ve been following in my life? Whether it’s from Little Bunny or this manga author Da A’Ti.

Besides… Xiao Yao stared at the screen intently, and felt that there was something strange.

He hadn’t read this author’s Weibo moments or followed up on his comic for a while now. Just as he was about to scroll down, he heard Naomi’s voice calling him over.

“Xiao Yao, Xiao Yu is awake,” said Naomi.

“Cleveland!” Xiao Yu repeated the English name which Xiao Yao wasn’t very fond of.

The blush on the child’s face had faded, revealing a white face as pure as jade. His long eyelashes fluttered as he blinked his blue eyes while looking at his brother.

Xiao Yu stretched out his little baby hands towards Xiao Yao, looking as if he was asking for a hug. On the back of one of his hands was a band-aid, securing the needle connected to the IV drip.

He said something like “Ge, hug” in unclear Chinese.

Because his elder sister Naomi told him that his elder brother didn’t like to listen to English much, the little guy tried to speak Chinese, even though he wasn’t fluent at it.

Xiao Yao looked at the little brother whose eyebrows were vaguely similar to his, but did not stretch out his hand, and just stood there.

Xiao Yu’s small arms were still stretched out in the air, looking at Xiao Yao eagerly, with longing in his blue eyes.

Xiao Yao seemed to have thought of something, and sighed imperceptibly. His attitude towards this half-brother finally became a little softer as he bent over and squatted in front of him, then picked him up on his shoulders.

The little guy’s expression turned from dejection to joy in an instant. His small eyes were also shining. He was so happy that he even forgot how to say the English word “happy” in Chinese.

No one knew what or who Xiao Yao was thinking about at this moment.

It just so happened that the person he thought of had a big sneeze.

“Achoo–” Ti Xiao sneezed just as he was about to take the medicine, causing his hand to shake and the pills to fall to the floor, rolling under the sofa.

Chapter 16: WiFi Signal

Translator: マイ

Proofread/edit: adlt1226

Ti Xiao returned home with a large bag of packed food. He opened and closed the door with a “Bang ——”.

Smelling the fragrant meals, Xiao Hulu came over and lazily rubbed against his leg, brushing its body around his trousers.

Ti Xiao took off his coat, he thought about how he planned to seduce the man tonight as he stood in the empty room. Suddenly, his mood was like…

“Xiao Yao, you’re a ruthless scumbag!”

I was looking forward to this date for a month, and when you said we need to leave, you left just like that?

You think you can just summon me with a wave of your hand?

Hmph! Xiao Yao, aren’t you just a long-legged son of a bi… biscuit?

Ti Xiao hmphed angrily, and then took out bags of garbage that he hadn’t thrown out for many days and placed these in the middle of the hallway – more like in front of Xiao Yao’s unit, making it look like it was Xiao Yao who hadn’t thrown away the garbage for a long time.

I’ll make you know what ruthless is!

I’ll let everyone in the building know that you are a sloppy ghost.

The sloppy and naive ghost himself was standing in the hallway, stomping his feet unhappily, trying to switch on the voice-activated lights.

However, he failed several times in a row.

The hallway on this floor was dark. The voice-activated lights on this floor where his and Xiao Yao’s units were located seemed to be broken. The only light at this moment came from his unit and the light passed through the gaps between the stair treads leading to the upstairs and downstairs units.

The cold wind that rushed from the downstairs to the fourth floor, made Ti Xiao shiver and sneeze. He stood in front of the door, and when he placed his hand inside his pocket, his fingers touched a square and hard object.

It was the cold medicine Xiao Yao bought him on their way back from the restaurant.

Ti Xiao’s hand rubbed the medicine packaging several times in his pocket, from the horizontal edge to the sharp corner. As if eyes grew out of his fingers, he could tell the writing on the paper box, and could even imagine what kind of mood Xiao Yao was in when he bought the medicine for him at that moment.

Xiao Hulu meowed beside his feet, and the meowing sound echoed a little in the hallway.

Ti Xiao looked at the garbage bags between their apartment units while tapping his finger on the sharp corner of the medicine packaging. He squatted down, hugged Xiao Hulu, then turned around and went into his apartment with a smile on his lips.

Forget it, for the sake of having such a face and that I like you, and for the reasons you haven’t denied anything, I’ll forgive you for the time being.

After making up his mind, Ti Xiao did not forget his readers’ welfare and the promise he made earlier. He turned on his computer and connected the pen display. Just as he prepared to draw, he received a message from Gua Pi.

The editor’s working hours was from nine to five; it was already 8 o’clock in the evening, and there weren’t any reasons for Gua Pi to still be working at this time.

Gua Pi was Ti Xia’s editor. Although they talked to each other, their conversations usually revolved around work – Gua Pi either reminded him about his manuscript or discussed comics, and they would not talk about non-work related matters.

They did not have any reason to get together, especially at this time of the day—

Editor · Gua Pi Pi: A’Ti ah, I’ll tell you something. Today I ran into a high school classmate I haven’t seen for a long time~

——————

Hospital, registration counter.

“Xiao Yu, four years old.” Xiao Yao bent down slightly and handed the money to the nurse sister through the small window. The nurse sister couldn’t help but take a second look at him because of the serious look on his face and his furrowed eyebrows.

The temperature in Xuancheng had dropped significantly in the past few days. People of all ages filled the emergency department, many of whom had not escaped the trivial fate of catching a cold on this cold winter night.

Cries of children unwilling to get an injection or to take their medicine came one after another. Xiao Yao frowned and looked around, then his eyes finally fell on the beautiful back of a blonde woman not far away. She had her back to him so he couldn’t determine what kind of expression she had at that moment, but it was easy to see that she held a child in her arms, one arm hanging loosely.

Little Bunny also caught a cold.

I wonder if he is home now? Has he taken his medicine yet? Will he come to the hospital if his condition gets worse?

These three questions popped up in succession, and Xiao Yao’s mind filled with Ti Xiao’s image – wrinkling his nose as he sniffed, his mouth pressed so tight that he could see the dimples on both sides of his cheeks, coupled with his big black and round eyes.

He recalled the amusing event that happened when he bought cold medicine for Ti Xiao. Because Ti Xao was carrying things in his hands, he sat in the waiting area of the pharmacy while Xiao Yao went to buy cold medicine.

Probably because of the popularization of same-sex marriage laws, the number of individuals identifying themselves as part of the LGBTQ community had surged in recent years, especially the number of male lovers.

The cashier, who might have had similar encounters on previous occasions in his role, threw two boxes directly onto the counter when he saw Xiao Yao approaching.

One box of lubricant and one box of condoms.

Xiao Yao’s brain burned hot, and he felt a little uncomfortable when he saw the two boxes in front of him. He rubbed the area under his nose with his index finger, then pressed one hand to his lips.

Xiao Yao lowered his head and looked at his phone while the nurse sister printed his receipt. The last time he contacted Ti Xiao was yesterday.

He pressed his finger to the screen and kept dragging the messaging interface down to refresh, but he didn’t receive any new messages.

What was he expecting?

He also had no idea.

Later the phone vibrated twice, but they were all messages from Li Yi.

High School-Li Yi: Aiyaya, you are really ruthless. Did you drive me away because I ran into you and your little boyfriend having dinner together? I won’t tell your dad, relax~

Xiao Yao typed the three words “he is not” in the input box. However, after a slight thought, he deleted it and pretended not to see the message.

Meeting Li Yi at the restaurant was really unexpected.

Li Yi was his high school classmate, and they studied painting together at that time. Even though they kept in contact when Xiao Yao went abroad, in the end, they were no longer the same as when they were in high school.

At the same time, after four years of not seeing each, he didn’t expect that Li Yi would still be the same – he was still careless with his words. As soon as his words come out, it’s able to poke a hole in the sky.

“Is this your boyfriend?”

Xiao Yao looked down at his fingertips for a while, this incident touched his bottom line to some extent.

He didn’t want to think about nor mention anything regarding relationships.

But at that time, when he brushed past Ti Xiao’s fingertips, it gave birth to the desire of wanting to stretch out his hand to hold Ti Xiao’s hand in his, even though he didn’t feel it before – when they first met at the convenience store.

He was like a person standing in the dense jungle, always on guard. He wrapped himself in layers of thorny vines wound tightly, making it impossible for anyone to see the real person inside.

However, an element has come to disturb this armor he has set up for himself. It quietly lifted a layer, then unwound the vines until he bled from the thorns that had embedded themselves in his flesh, revealing his sincere and passionate heart.

He wanted to make a flower bloom out of that blood.

But he was afraid of having regrets.

Some words, if said without any careful consideration, it would be too late to change and take back.

Xiao Yao was fully aware of this truth.

Fortunately, Naomi’s phone call gave him a choice, which was why he was standing in the hospital now.

“Turn left to the first room.” The nurse sister couldn’t help but take a look at Xiao Yao a few more times as she passed him the printed receipt and his change through the window.

Holding the registration slip, Xiao Yao patted Naomi’s shoulder. “Let’s go.”

Naomi was worthy of the name blond and green eyes – she had dark green eyes and light golden curly hair.

The child she held in her arms looked uncomfortable, a thin layer of sweat coming out of his smooth forehead. His face was flushed red, his tightly closed eyelids hiding azure blue irises, and there were shallow teeth marks on his lower lip.

“How is he?” Xiao Yao led the way and asked, he didn’t even look back.

But one could tell that he was referring to the child in Naomi’s arms.

“39 degrees.” Naomi took out the thermometer and looked at it. “I originally planned on bringing Xiao Yu to the hospital by myself, but he was crying and wanting to see you…”

Hearing that, Xiao Yao raised his eyebrows slightly.

The boy was his half-blood younger brother with the same father, while Naomi was his elder sister in the legal sense but shared no blood relationship. It was also another thing he didn’t want to talk about.

Life After Marrying My Love Rival Ch 44

Chapter 44

Translator: マイ

Proofread/edit: adlt1226

Facts have proved that the people in the Xue family were not only good at spouting nonsense, their nonsense was also very excessive.

Ye NanQi avoided Shen Du all night. Whenever he saw someone coming over to talk to him, he pushed Shen Du away, and Shen Du became so depressed that he wanted to vomit blood.

Ye NanQi was like a cat on guard; he was sensitive and full of doubts. A little bit of movement could easily scare him away.

This feeling was akin to the feeling you get when something happens in the middle of playing a video game. After painstakingly clearing the dungeon and defeating the first Boss, the game resets just when you’re about to move to the next level. You find yourself at the starting point, but worst of all is that the rules and the play style have changed entirely.

Fuck the Xue family!

Fearing that he would slip away without telling him, Shen Du kept an eye on Ye NanQi, right until before the party ended – it would be more troublesome if that happened. Some small celebrities who wanted to get ahead and take a shortcut to stardom looked around the audience and found that Shen Du was a good prospect.

However, several people surrounded him earlier, so they couldn’t get close to him. Although Shen Du now stood alone, the combination of the folded arms across his chest, and his cold and indifferent expression, frightened those who initially wanted to make a move on him.

A good-looking little star bravely came forward, attempting to make contact with Shen Du. Seeing him come closer, Shen Du raised his eyelids and gave him a glance. Whether it was intentional or not, and before he could reject the little celebrity and utter the words “not interested”, Ye NanQi glanced in his direction after finishing his wine. He became even more upset because of this.

Shen Du quickly stepped away to prove his innocence. Thinking that Shen Du was going to leave before he could say anything, the little star hurried forward. Because he was in a hurry, he staggered on the smooth bluestone and fell straight into Shen Du’s arms; he later realized the true meaning of falling flat on the ground.

Shen Du was so anxious that he pushed the little star away as if he got an electric shock.

He may have used a little too much strength, and the little star fell to the ground with tears in his eyes.

Shen Du felt a headache as everyone in attendance turned their eyes on him, and whispers came from all directions.

Ye NanQi looked a little drunk. He glanced over quietly, then turned his head, said goodbye to the people around him with his usual expression before he turned to leave.

Shen Du knew that this little incident might have become a joke tonight, and patiently helped the little star get up before saying his apologies. He still looked like a good-mannered gentleman, but in reality, his actions were impatient and anxious as if he couldn’t wait to leave at that very second. Before anyone could say anything, Shen Du turned around and chased after Ye NanQi as fast as a fireball.

Ye NanQi, who was being chased by someone at the speed of lightning, was not walking very fast. His legs were weak, swaying left and right as if his center of gravity was unstable. Shen Du quickly caught up, explaining. “He came over too suddenly.”

Ye NanQi remained silent.

Looking at his expressionless face, Shen Du sighed, asking a half-serious question, “Are you angry because you feel offended or just jealous?”

Ye NanQi’s eyes wore a complicated expression, and his heart grew heavier. Only after a long while did he say, “It’s no wonder that this kind of thing is popular among rich people.”

Shen Du raised his hand toward the sky, and swore, “Shen Du, twenty-four years old, grew up and lived in A City until the age of twelve. Later, I went to study in the UK, and just returned to China last year. I can drink alcohol but I’m not addicted to it; I used to smoke before but I’m quitting now. I haven’t followed the internet trend these days because I’ve been busy raising my little lover, and I have no other bad hobbies.”

He laughed as he said, “If liking you counts as a hobby, then it shouldn’t be bad.”

Ye NanQi stared at him for a moment.

This tall man standing in front of him could be cold and indifferent towards outsiders, but at this moment, his eyes seem to be full of gentleness, affection and care.

It was all for him.

Ye NanQi unconsciously clenched his hands. His mind was a little hazy, and his bad mood had mostly dispersed. He stared at Shen Du, unaware as his eyes flashed with emotions that he hadn’t noticed.

He moved his lips, and with a little drunkenness, he said with difficulty, “Shen Du…”

Don’t lie to me.

Shen Du, who was planning to explain to him clearly after they got home, got into the car and slipped into the driver’s seat quietly. He turned his head when he heard Ye NanQi calling him, his eyes filled with patience.

Ye NanQi sat in the co-pilot’s seat; his cheeks flushed a little crimson red, as he looked blankly at Shen Du.

This was a dream that he dared not touch, but desired so much in his heart.

In the end, Ye NanQi still didn’t ask the question. He frowned with his eyes closed, and his breathing gradually calmed down.

Shen Du reached out his hand and gently smoothed the crease between his eyebrows. He couldn’t help but feel distressed.

What are you thinking, and what do you want to ask?

When you wake up, ask me anything and I will tell you everything.

Ye NanQi had already fallen asleep in the car. The big bad wolf didn’t mind holding onto the little bunny who was always on guard when he was awake, yet was so defenseless and trusting when he was asleep.

After calling Zhang Mo to drive his car back, Shen Du brought Ye NanQi home, where he was absent for a long time. His wife had been away from home for several days, and Shen Du, who was living alone in those days, could not sleep a wink. But now that he finally brought the person back, he was content and felt that this “home” was finally complete.

Shen Du carefully hugged Ye NanQi, who was restless even in his sleep to his room. Later, when he tried to leave to call his assistant, he was dragged back to the bed and he couldn’t walk away. So he could only give up the idea of making a phone call; instead, he held the phone in one hand, and sent a message to his assistant.

Whether it was Xue Jingshan or Xue XiangYu, if either of them dared to talk nonsense, they shouldn’t blame him for stumbling in to collect on some debts.

After discussing with the assistant for a long time, he put the phone aside and touched Ye NanQi’s face. He lowered his head, kissed him on the lips, and sighed. “This is the first time I’ve seen such a quiet drunken cat…”

Why not make a fuss, so that he had a reason to have sex after drinking.

Shen Du thought of “drunken sex”, but he could only do this in his imagination, and he didn’t dare to do it for real – the typical example of having the heart but no courage. He kissed Ye NanQi’s hands―his hands were slender and beautiful, but there were also shallow calluses between his fingers.

Ye NanQi had never been spoiled. He had been doing various tasks since he was a child, including taking care of his elder sister and younger sister. When he grew up a little bit, he began to take care of their family that had lost a father. Probably because he was the only boy in the family, he was used to taking on everything by himself.

Shen Du took Ye NanQi’s hand and kissed his fingertips reverently. He said in his heart, be good and let me spoil you from now on.

Expecting Ye NanQi to wake up with a headache, Shen Du went downstairs to make sober soup. Ye NanQi opened his eyes when he heard the door being closed. He stretched out the hand that was kissed a while ago, looked at it for a while, then slowly clenched it.

When those soft, gentle kisses fell on his hand, he felt an itch spread from his fingertips, all the way to his heart.

He thought about it all night.

He also bet that Shen Du would do something to him after he was drunk.

Although they spent a few years together when they were young, they lost contact after Ye NanQi’s family moved away. It wasn’t until many years later when they saw each other again. They got together soon after that and got married by accident, despite not knowing much about each other.

After calming down his uneasiness, he was more inclined to believe in Shen Du.

If a person were only pretending to be sincere… then he would be able to tell whether he was genuinely sincere or not.

Ye NanQi closed his eyes again as he lay on the bed, which carried the same warmth and smell as Shen Du. After Ye NanQi left, the quality of his sleep dropped sharply, and he could hardly sleep at night. But now, in this bed, he felt relieved after closing his eyes.

After lying in a trance for a while, he heard the sound of extremely light footsteps. Shen Du carried something into the room, deliberately and gently placed it on the table, and then he headed towards the bed.

Ye NanQi felt a hand on his face, trying to smooth his furrowed brows.

“… want to give you a kiss.”

Shen Du murmured, and then immediately gave him a kiss. Everything he said before about having the heart but not daring to take action was actually being thrown away as dog food. Ye NanQi was shocked. He wanted to push the person away and stand up, but felt that they might embarrass each other in that way, so he lay down stiffly. Shen Du reluctantly let him go when he couldn’t pry open his lips, rubbing his neck with dissatisfaction.

“Other people’s wives are very obedient, you are not.”

Ye NanQi continued to lie down calmly, thinking that he was talking nonsense.

Shen Du murmured to himself for a while, then he finally started to roll Ye NanQi in the quilt, ready to go to bed and hug him to sleep. As soon as he lay down, Ye NanQi opened his eyes.

As they looked at each other, Shen Du felt ashamed when he thought of the words he was saying to himself. “Just woke up? Do you have a headache? Would you like to drink some sober soup?”

Ye NanQi looked at him quietly, and said, “I woke up from when you said, ‘Quiet drunk cat.’”

Shen Du, “…”

Shen Du may have a face as thick as the city wall, but when he thought about what he had done just now, he felt panicked.

Ye NanQi, however, did not have any doubts about the appearance of being caught in the quilt. He was silent for a while, and said in a serious tone, “Shen Du, I… let me ask you something.”

Shen Du’s intuition told him that he was about to ask the key point of tonight’s weird attitude, and nodded. “Um?”

Ye NanQi said, “Don’t lie to me.”

“It is the fine tradition of the old Shen family not to lie to their wife.” Shen Du said, as he lay on top of the other person with a calm expression.

“… have you always known about the organization and did they contact you before?”

When Ye NanQi spoke, he carefully observed Shen Du’s face and didn’t miss any minute reaction; there wasn’t a single moment of hesitation on his face.

That was the most natural expression of human emotions, and couldn’t be faked.

He was innocent.

Ye NanQi’s breathing quickened; for a moment he couldn’t tell what he was feeling. His eyes were hot, and something clamored in his heart, forcing him to approach and touch Shen Du.

There was only one thought in his mind, screaming over and over again—Shen Du was innocent, he didn’t know anything, and he misunderstood him.

While Ye NanQi was in a state of confusion, Shen Du, whose mind was full of doubt, asked, “Who told you this?”

Ye NanQi sold someone without hesitation. “Xue XiangYu.”

Shen Du frowned. “It seems he has wicked motives.”

After a pause, he said, “If I have to say anything, it would be that I did get in touch with them before. Whenever I came back during a school holiday, my dad would let me go to the company to handle some business as practice for when I take over the company in the future. About three years ago, the Xue family and I cooperated on a project, and I had been in contact with them for a long time. After the last wine bureau, they took me to a club and showed me some… sex slaves that they kept in private. It’s been too long, and I almost forgot about it. I didn’t expect these two things to have any connection.”

In fact, the higher the circle, the more chaotic it was. Shen Du had also seen many people addicted to S&M, but had never seen that kind. The Shen family was a scholarly family, his education was strict, and he had his own persistence in his bones. He didn’t find this kind of thing fun nor interesting at all and felt sick when he watched the “slave” being commanded by his master to take off his clothes and be appreciated.

The other party asked him vaguely if he was interested, and Shen Du bluntly refused. He returned to the UK after completing the project, so he left the matter behind and never thought about it again.

Because of this, he didn’t have a good impression of the Xue family. When Ye NanQi and Xue XiangYu met for the first time, only then did he speak out and tell Ye NanQi to stay away from the Xue family.

How could he know that the rotten stale gossip, which he had left behind, was picked out by Xue XiangYu. Regardless of whether Xue XiangYu’s action was intentional or not, Shen Du was full of anger.

He had no intention of treating people outside his family so well.

While Shen Du was carefully weighing the cause and consequences of this incident, he suddenly heard Ye NanQi sullenly say,  “I’m sorry.”

Shen Du was stunned. Withdrawing his thoughts, he saw Ye NanQi lower his head uneasily. Then raised his head again after a long while, his eyes were bright, yet anxious at the same time, telling him, “I’m sorry.”

Shen Du wasn’t angry. For the sake of easing Ye NanQi’s heart after hearing such news, he smiled and said, “You actually doubted me; of course, I’m angry. But, since you decided to tell me about the doubts in your heart, you deserve to be rewarded.”

As he said this, he opened his arms and hugged Ye NanQi unceremoniously, rubbing his chin on top of his head. “Okay… hug and pass. If you still feel guilty, accompany me to sleep tonight.”

Ye NanQi closed his eyes, thinking that if he opened his eyes now, his eyes might be red. “Are you afraid of ghosts?”

Shen Du hugged him tighter and smiled. “Yeah.”

I’m afraid the ghost will take you away.

Chapter 15: WiFi Signal

Perhaps even God doesn’t know how much Ti Xiao wanted to scream, “Yes.”

A kind of scream that would resound throughout the sky, so that people of all skin and hair colors across the world could hear it. However, he didn’t dare to. In fact, he kept trying to flirt with the other person, but he didn’t dare take any action.

If he had to count the places where they had an encounter in this relationship, it would be, “downstairs, at the convenience store, and in front of the community’s gate.”

Even Xiao Yao’s sexual orientation was unknown, what if he was as straight as steel? What if it made Xiao Yao feel disgusted after he confessed recklessly? What if, what if he gave him the cold shoulder after confessing?

After all, Xiao Yao seemed to show no desire, he’s always quiet and calm – a pure-hearted ascetic style, and no trace of gay breath could be detected. Ti Xiao had 10,000 things running in his mind, but in the end, he was still like a little Goldfish that could only spit bubbles.

Xiao Yao didn’t speak.

Li Yi seemed to have taken it as his default response. He sat directly beside Ti Xiao, squeezing in using his hip, motioning for Ti Xiao to move a little bit.

“I say, Xiao Yao has always liked your type,” said Li Yi.

“Li Yi.” Xiao Yao finally spoke. He frowned, and his voice sounded a little serious.

“Aiya aiya, look at my mouth.” Li Yi grinned. Ignoring the mmp* in Xiao Yao’s heart, he clapped his palms in the air two times, pretending to slap his mouth.

(mmp: Cursing/Motherfucker.)

But it did make Ti Xiao notice something.

Always, like, your type.

Mine… my type?

And what kind of like?

It looks like Xiao Yao might be bent at 90 and not exactly a straight steel man…

Raising his head, Ti Xiao stared at Xiao Yao from the other side of the table. Xiao Yao’s brows slightly furrowed, his slender fingers were folded together, the sleeves of his sweater were slightly rolled up, revealing a wristwatch, and an area in the wrist commonly known as the Absolute Domain.

Ti Xiao’s little heart screamed after observing these things.

It looks like they couldn’t be friends anymore.

However, a friend of Xiao Yao’s was sitting next to him. This friend even wrapped his arm around his neck and kept messing with him.

“Let me tell you. A lot of people chased after Xiao Yao when he was in high school, and now, he has finally fallen into your hands…” said Li Yi while glancing at Ti Xiao. “Un… still okay, hahaha.” He added then laughed it off.

For Ti Xiao, the first half of the sentence was instrumental, but the second half was a bit… what did he mean, still okay?

Ti Xiao wanted to slap this hand away and ask this vicious male partner No.2 whether he wanted to add drama for himself.

However, listening to Li Yi’s noise in his ears, it made Ti Xiao catch a clue—

That he could easily ignore Xiao Yao’s hard exterior, which in fact seemed to be really thin. In that instant, Xiao Yao’s image in Ti Xiao’s eyes did a complete 180; Xiao Yao went from a steel straight man to mosquito repellent incense. With that in mind, he felt assured that he can now boldly start his pursuit.

Vicious male partner No. 2’s favorability rose from 0 to 0.1.

While Li Yi was singing a one-person show, the waitress started serving the dishes one after another. After a quick count, there were nearly ten dishes.

“Even you two can’t finish this much.” Li Yi beamed as he turned to the waitress, calling her sister in a flirtatious manner, and said, “Sister, please give me another set of tableware~.”

However, only Xiao Yao knew that this money-grubbing senior of his had been out of the closet for years.

Except for Xiao Yao, he flirted with all the boys in his class when he was in high school.

The reason he didn’t dare to tease Xiao Yao back then – not because he didn’t want to but because Xiao Yao had beat him up even before he could start flirting.

Xiao Yao still wanted to beat him up, even at this very moment – babbling all day with that mouth of his.

“No need to add another set for him.” Xiao Yao stopped the waitress in her tracks with a deep voice. “Just two sets of tableware here is enough, thank you.”

“Xiao Yaoyao, how can you be so ruthless.” Li Yi said with a sour face, making a QAQ expression.

Xiao Yao stood up, grabbed his hoodie, and dragged him out of the hall, “Get up, I’m seeing you off.”

After Li Yi was mercilessly chased away, the table was quiet again. No one spoke anymore, and the silence made the air even a bit awkward.

“That.” While Xiao Yao was picking food, Ti Xiao said, “I didn’t take it to heart, so you don’t have to worry.”

But Ti Xiao did take it to heart. In fact, he was hoping that Xiao Yao would be a little perturbed by what happened – even better if he worried a little more. Xiao Yao was stunned for a moment, feeling as if he had been robbed of his lines. These words should obviously come from him, but how come Little Bunny was the one comforting him instead.

“It’s okay.” Xiao Yao smiled and gave him the soup. “Li Yi always talks like that, and I hope you can bear with it. If there was something that made you uncomfortable, I am apologizing on his behalf.”

After he finished speaking, he pushed the porcelain bowl toward Ti Xiao. Because his phone happened to be in the way, Ti Xiao reached out his hand to put his phone away and lightly brushed against Xiao Yao’s hand.

A strange feeling seemed to fill the air around them. If we zoom in, there was a noticeable pause between them after their hands touched. And if you looked at it carefully, it seemed there was even a spark, filled with a small cluster of bursting starlight.

That moment was so exciting that it made Ti Xiao sniff his nose, breaking off the tense atmosphere.

“Are you still feeling uncomfortable with your cold? I will ask the waiter to bring some ginger soup.” Xiao Yao took out a tissue and handed it to Ti Xiao.

“Ah, no need.” Ti Xiao tried hard to hold back his runny nose. “You don’t have to apologize, it’s fine.”

It was simply too good; it couldn’t be any better.

When Ti Xiao reached out to get the tissue, he deliberately moved his hand forward, causing their hands to touch again. Xiao Yao fixed his gaze on Ti Xiao; something flickered in his eyes, and he didn’t even move his hands.

Consequently, Ti Xiao couldn’t pull the paper out of Xiao Yao’s hand even after a while had passed.

Right at this moment, Xiao Yao’s phone vibrated several times, followed by a piece of music, a piano piece to be exact. It sounded familiar, and Ti Xiao thought he’d heard it somewhere before.

“Sorry.” Xiao Yao suddenly returned to his senses, and the strength in his hand also relaxed. “You eat first. I’ll just answer the phone.”

As soon as Xiao Yao left, he received a message from Ti Nanyi.

Ti Nanyi: Extra edition! Our English teacher shouldn’t have a girlfriend【Happy】

However, Ti Xiao’s thoughts right now were all focused on Xiao Yao, and he had no time to gossip about Ti Nanyi’s English teacher. He looked in the direction where Xiao Yao headed off to and secretly used his fingertips that had brushed against Xiao Yao’s hand to squeeze his face.

Even so, Ti Nanyi persistently bombarded him with messages. Perhaps thinking that her words were not enough to convey her excitement, she decided to send a voice message instead.

The voice was a bit loud, so Ti Xiao lowered the volume slightly before listening to the voice message.

“My classmate saw him in a restaurant just now. It’s the same restaurant that you like very much – Xuancheng. My classmate just saw him sitting in a couple’s booth with a man, a couple’s booth!”

The same restaurant, is there such a coincidence?

Ti Xiao glanced around, trying to find the handsome and tall English teacher Ti Nanyi spoke of. After looking around several times, there was only one table that fit Tian Nanyi’s description. Two men sat opposite each other. One of them was indeed around one meter and eighty-five meters in height. Sitting opposite him was also a man, but his face was really not worthy of a “handsome” character.

Ti Xiao decided it was time for Ti Nanyi to go to the ophthalmology department to see if her eyes were nearsighted or blind.

How was this called handsome?

Even if Xiao Yao had dandruff falling off his head, he’d still be 10,000 times more handsome than that.

“It’s a pity that my classmate couldn’t take any photos. She was walking with her parents and was in a hurry. Otherwise, I really want to see which little goblin abducted our English teacher.”

Ti Xiao sneezed while listening to Ti Nanyi’s voice messages, he wiped his nose with a tissue, and took a sip of ginger soup, only to find that it had already gone cold.

He took a piece from a few of the other dishes – everything had gone cold.

Xiao Yao had been on the phone for a long time and still hadn’t returned. Before he got up, Ti Xiao heard him say “Hello”(in English). Was it the same call from when he was downstairs the last time?

Feeling bored, Ti Xiao used one hand to support his cheek while looking at his other hand’s fingertips. A few seconds later, he called the waitress to help warm up the dishes. When Xiao Yao came back, there was also a message from Ti Nanyi—

“I said before that our English teacher must be an elegant gay guy. I really guessed it right.”

“Sorry.” As soon as Xiao Yao came back, he apologized to Ti Xiao. Ti Xiao was confused; he didn’t know what was happening, so he stopped scrolling through the posts on his Weibo.

What is he apologizing for?

Xiao Yao picked up his jacket on the sofa and looked down at his wristwatch.

Then Ti Xiao heard him say to the waitress, “No need to heat it. Please pack it instead; we have to go now.”

Chapter 5.5

Yong Shan stared coldly at Yong Lin. It took him a while before he could bring out his weak voice, telling Yong Lin, who was still kneeling on the ground on such a cold day without regard for their mother’s affection. “Get up.”

Because Yong Lin had injured Yong Shan, Yong Lin couldn’t sleep for several nights. Seeing his brother, who had always been strong, fall to such a terrible state because of his worsening condition made him extremely sad to the point that he couldn’t stop crying. When Yong Shan told him to get up, Yong Lin, who was still crying, didn’t hear him clearly and continued to cry while holding Yong Shan’s hand. Shu Fei pulled him up from the ground and scolded, “What are you still crying about? Your brother is no longer angry with you. He is sick, don’t bother him here.”

Yong Lin thought she was right, so he quickly wiped his crying, wet face with his sleeve, and shut his mouth obediently.

After a while, the ginseng soup finished boiling and was served. Thinking that the palace maids were clumsy, Shu Fei took the bowl and sat by Yong Shan’s bedside to feed him herself. Yong Lin, who was looking for a chance to make up for what he did, hurried and carefully helped Yong Shan to sit up and leaned him on his shoulders.

It was unclear whether the Laoshan ginseng brought by Shu Fei was indeed better than the ginseng commonly used in the palace, but Yong Shan felt his energy replenish after drinking the ginseng soup in one mouthful. He looked at the person in front of him and the person behind him. These two were the closest people in the palace he shared a bond with; they were his kin, connected to him by blood. He could care less about others, but these two were his flesh and blood. In this life, their destinies intertwined – mothers and sons, destined to share the same glory and shame.

In his weakened condition, the usually hot-headed and cold-tempered Yong Shan felt a bit of tenderness in his chest as he gently looked at Shu Fei. In a low voice, he said, “Mother, don’t worry. I have practiced swords and martial arts since I was a child, and my body is not that weak. On the other hand, I gave Yong Lin a hard kick that day. I am afraid his internal organs might have suffered some damage. Please remember to find someone to check his condition.”

“I already had it checked. I have thick skin and flesh, and even the bruises have disappeared in the first two days.” Yong Lin carefully supported Yong Shan from behind, and said,“I deserved that kick. Mother said Gege should have kicked me harder.”

Shu Fei glared at him and said, “You still have a face to say such things? If your brother did not protect you, do you think you’d still be sitting here and laughing now?”

After the three of them talked, they felt their depression ease, and they became more intimate.

Afraid that Yong Shan had difficulty talking in his sitting position, Shu Fei and Yong Lin lay him down again, and continued their conversation for a while longer. Yong Sheng, who was now in charge of handling trivial affairs, and pretending to meet with the ministers every day, also became a topic of their conversation.

Yong Shan smiled and said, “This is good. Those who don’t do their job can conceal their blundering, those who do, will eventually expose their careless mistakes. He has little qualifications and is ignorant, and taking care of trivial matters is not as simple. We can certainly expect something to go wrong within a few days.”

Because Yong Shan’s leg injury was pierced with a bamboo at a later time, Yong Lin snorted, “If he hadn’t reported in front of Father, Gege’s wound would not have become like this.”

Shu Fei obviously had something else in her mind, and discussed with Yong Shan. “It is a natural practice to have other princes assist with state affairs while you recover from your wounds; however, it makes me wonder why it was Yong Sheng? Yong Lin is still here. You are twins, and Yong Lin is also the Third Prince. His ranking is still higher than Yong Sheng, is it not? Why didn’t he order Yong Lin to assist instead?”

“Because of Yong Lin’s temper, at this time, it’s better not to involve him managing political and state affairs.” Yong Shan groaned. “I will teach him personally once I’ve recovered. It is too early for him to handle such matters, it’s better to wait until he learns some skills in the future. Otherwise, if he runs into trouble and makes a mess of things, cleaning up after him will be difficult.”

Shu Fei showed a sense of relief. “If you protect him, I will be relieved.”

“Don’t worry mother, I only have one mother and one brother. How can I not care about him? Just report to me if he wants something.”

Yong Lin was his twin. Since they grew up together, Yong Lin was well aware of his twin’s temper. He was merciless when angry. However, once Yong Shan’s anger disappeared, he doted on his twin brother a lot.

Yong Lin heard Yong Shan’s remark and knew that his elder brother’s anger was no longer as intense as before. He felt glad and showed a joyful expression on his face as he looked at Shu Fei from behind Yong Shan.

Shu Fei also laughed, “That would just be spoiling him. There are plenty of people who give him gifts, what else can he ask for? There is nothing else that he should be asking from you.”

“That’s not true.” Yong Lin hurriedly interjected, “There is something I want to ask Gege.”

“What is it?”

“I want to ask Gege for mercy and spare Yong Qi Gege.”

As soon as the words fell, Yong Shan’s expression suddenly changed.

Even Shu Fei did not expect Yong Lin to be such a fool. Suddenly, Shu Fei’s face turned black after realizing his carelessness.

Silence fell inside the Prince’s Manor, and the air grew heavy, pressing down on people’s hearts.

“Yong Lin…” Yong Shan asked softly after a while, “What did you just say?”

“I know that you imprisoned him under orders from the Emperor, but the charges against him are false. I am the closest person to Yong Qi gege, and I would know his character best. Yong Qi gege is an honest person; he is mild-tempered and timid, and would never resort to bribery nor incite rebellion. Subjecting Yong Qi Gege to the Internal Punishment Court’s abusive and torturous ways to coax information will only get him injured and won’t get you the information that you need.Yesterday, when I visited him in secret, I saw that he had lost a lot of weight. He told me through the window that he might not be able to get out and asked me to take a look after Li Fei…”

Shu Fei, who sat on the other side, saw Yong Shan’s expression darken and grow heavier, and couldn’t help but shout, “Yong Lin, you shut up! How many times have you been banned from getting involved with the Internal Punishment Court? How bold you are, daring to hide it from me! That bastard Zhang Cheng has become even more incapable!”

“Mother, I…”

“You get out, don’t bother your brother again!”

Yong Shan’s temperature kept fluctuating, going up and down, hot and cold, and his eyes were dazed. He kept himself from showing his fatigue, gritted his teeth, and said lightly to Shu Fei, “Mother, let him speak. Yong Lin, what else did Yong Qi say to you? You tell me everything.”

Yong Lin answered him honestly, “Yong Qi Gege said that he has a terrible fate, and was destined to live a short life. He misses his mother, Li Fei, and he feels guilty because of filial piety. He told me that sooner or later, Father Emperor and Yong Shan Gege will find out about this matter. A Prince cannot be executed based on those rumors and slanders. I also told him that Yong Shan Gege is only acting on orders, and when he understands the truth, he will definitely not embarrass him again. He listened to me and said… said…”

“What did he say?” Yong Shan asked in a low voice, with half-lidded eyes.

Yong Lin was aware that what he was about to say might cause some unpleasant emotions, he hesitated for a long time before begging, “Gege, don’t be angry with him after I say it. Because he is not always with you, he doesn’t know you well. Clearly it is just an unintentional remark.”

Shu Fei knew it was going to be bad, so she stood aside and signaled at Yong Lin.

Yong Shan was already like a fuel tank on fire at the moment, and it would explode at any time. Shu Fei did not dare to speak casually—if Yong Shan hated her as well, then there would be no one to appease them.

Yong Shan sighed, “Just tell me.”

“Yong Qi Gege shuddered when he heard your name, and said that he was really afraid of you.”

Yong Shan’s eyes widened suddenly, and his eyes were full of violent waves.

He closed them slowly. His face that was initially hot, and stained with a blush, suddenly paled, as if someone had covered it with a layer of translucent white paper.

No one spoke for a while.

The hall became suffocatingly quiet.

Yong Lin carefully looked at Yong Shan’s face, “Gege, are you angry?”

“I’m not angry.” Yong Shan trembled with anger. He forced a laugh through gritted teeth, “I am the Prince, he is a prisoner. He is afraid of me, as he should have been. Haha, it’s good that he is scared, that’s just how I want him to be – afraid.” Just as he finished speaking, he heard a choked sob from the back of his throat, which seemed to be a crying sound, echo in his head.

Yong Shan was taken aback and suppressed secretly. He felt better after a few long sighs. He opened his eyes, looked at Yong Lin, and asked, “He misses Li Fei. Did you go see Li Fei for him?”

“Un.” Yong Lin answered and glanced at Yong Shan secretly, seeming a little timid.

Yong Shan was sick, with weak hands and feet, but his shrewdness was unabated. Seeing Yong Lin’s expression, his heart was suspicious and was taken aback after thinking about it. His gaze at Yong Lin suddenly became sharp, “What did you bring to Li Fei?”

Shu Fei’s expression changed as she stood to one side.

“It was nothing…”

“What exactly was it?”

Yong Lin knew that he couldn’t hide it, he bit his lips and said vaguely, “It’s just a letter of greetings…”

Yong Shan was furious. He used his remaining strength to suddenly sit up, wave his hand and slapped Yong Lin’s face.

Pa!

The noise resounded across the manor.

Yong Lin did not have time to avoid it nor did he dare to. The slap stunned him so much that his ears buzzed.

Yong Shan glared at him angrily. He slapped him once, yet Yong Lin was still ignorant as to why he deserved it. Yong Shan raised his hand again in an attempt to slap him a second time, but his body felt sore and didn’t have an ounce of strength left, and he slowly fell back to bed.

Shu Fei exclaimed in shock. She quickly held him back, tremblingly, she said, “Yong Shan, don’t get angry, it’s more important that you focus your energy on recovering from your illness. Chang Defu! Chang Defu! Get the medicine quickly!” After that, she slapped Yong Lin with her slender, jade-like hand, twice and cursed, “You damned thing, are you trying to kill your own mother? You… What kind of letter did you bring Li Fei?”

Yong Lin clutched half of his swollen face, and hurriedly explained, “The content written inside was really nothing. I have read the entire content. It was only a letter greeting Li Fei and wishing her to be in good health, telling her not to worry. It also stated words of comfort for Li Fei, saying that there was actually no obscured letter between his Uncle and the Grand Mentor. The letter only contained poems…”

Shu Fei was so angry, she almost fainted. She looked at her unsuspecting young son and cursed, “Muddle-headed! Why don’t you ask what his charges were and why they took him back to the capital? Those letters… This transmission is evidence of a conspiracy and warrants the death sentence! How foolish! If this matter is exposed, you will be treated as an accomplice for passing private messages and charged for collusion!” Out of anger, she hit Yong Lin severely a few more times.

The corner of Yong Lin’s lips were bloodstained because of the ring in Shu Fei’s finger. He didn’t dare wipe it, seeing that his mother was so angry, he knew that he had made another big mistake. He faintly panicked, and said in a daze, “The letter was given to me by Yong Qi Gege. Moreover, I personally handed it to Li Fei Niangniang. It shouldn’t be known to others, right?”

Yong Shan’s anger had already diminished at this time, and his body was hot and cold at the same time. He felt so uncomfortable that he wanted to faint, as he barely spoke,

“Mother, he did not know about these things, and there is no time to talk to him about this now. I think we need to prepare early for this.”

Shu Fei nodded in response.

Yong Shan panted for a moment, then asked Yong Lin, “Did anyone see you when you delivered the letter?”

Yong Lin tried hard to think about it, shook his head and said, “There were not many people in the Cold Palace. Other than the two guards who stood by the entrance to the small hall where they detained Li Fei, there was no one else in sight.”

Shu Fei said with a black face, “If things come to light in the future, those two guards will be the witnesses to take your life.”

Yong Lin lowered his head and dared not make a sound.

Yong Shan pondered for a while, and then said, “Mother, Yong Lin, both of you go back first. Let me think about this. Don’t worry too much, even if the letter is intercepted by someone, they might not immediately take the matter out. There is always room for preparation. After Yong Lin returns to the manor, he is not allowed to go anywhere.”

Shu Fei hurriedly said, “Don’t worry, I will lock him up when I go back.”

After he ordered someone to see Shu Fei and Yong Lin off, Yong Shan lay down, resting his head on his hands, staring at the dragon-eye and phoenix tail engraved above the bed, calling Chang Defu, and instructing, “Go to the Internal Punishment Court, tell them it’s my order and bring His Highness Yong Qi here immediately.”

Chapter 5.4

Those two people obviously rushed to get there. The outside sky was just bright and the wind was still strong, but Yong Sheng walked in the room sweating. As soon as he entered the door, he took off the outer fur coat draped over his body and handed it to the eunuch who was waiting outside, pretending to be affectionate. “When I got up this morning, I heard His Highness was injured. My mother and I were so anxious that we do not know what to do. Your Highness’s body is the foundation of the country. What if you have a fatal accident? I don’t think this matter can be overlooked. I went to report to Father Emperor early this morning, and Father immediately ordered Chen Taiyi* to come over for treatment. Your Highness is really stubborn, no matter how injured you are, you still did not call on the doctor, making us worried to death.”

(*Taiyi: Imperial doctor.)

He talked as he walked towards Yong Shan’s bedside. He gave a graceful salute upon seeing Shu Fei, dressed in palace costumes,  “Niangniang is also here?” Then he showed a strange expression again, “Why is Niangniang’s face so pale? It can’t be that even Niangniang is also injured?” Despite his concerned tone, there was a look of contempt in his eyes.

Shu Fei’s heart jumped at the sight of the small medicine box in Chen Taiyi’s hands.

This old thing has served in the Imperial Hospital for 37 years. Known for being upright, he was truly a stone that could not be soaked in oil and salt, and was not invaded by water or fire*. If it were someone else, perhaps she could ask them to do a little bit of work and come up with some story regarding the prince’s condition. But why did it have to be this old man?

(Note: truly an unwavering and impervious figure.)

Shu Fei was ill at ease, but her face did not show any trace of anxiety. Slowly and calmly, she sat down on the bed and said coldly to Yong Sheng, “If you really have His Highness in your heart, you wouldn’t have barged into the Prince’s Manor without permission.”

Yong Sheng seemed to have been taught by Jin Fei beforehand, he just smiled and responded, “Shu Fei Niangniang has wronged me. I came here by the will of Father Emperor, so how am I barging in?”

Yong Shan had been looking at Yong Sheng quietly since he entered the door. The look in his eyes were far-reaching and unpredictable. Seeing that Shu Fei was about to argue, Yong Shan interjected, “Father Emperor has many other things to handle every day, my matter is not even a big deal, why did you bother him?” Then he turned towards a still-kowtowed Chen Taiyi and said warmly, “Get up. You are getting older, so you don’t need to kowtow whenever you see me.” he said with a slight smile.

Yong Shan had a reputation of being serious, cold, ruthless and hard to approach. However, with this one smile, which was as calm as the autumn waves of Pinghu, he looked particularly gentle and generous.

(Pinghu: Peaceful Lake.)

Chen Taiyi got up from the ground with difficulty. He bowed again, saying, neither humble nor overbearing, “The Emperor ordered this lowly official to examine the wounds for His Highness. May I ask Your Highness, where the wound is and how it happened?”

Yong Sheng said on the side, “It should be on the thigh, I heard it was a stab wound?”

“Nonsense!” Yong Shan reprimanded Yong Sheng, but his tone was not that stern. There was even a slight smile on his face, “If there were assassins, I would have reported to Father since long ago, and the city gate would be closed for an arrest. The wound is indeed on the leg, as for the reason. Well…”

He looked at Chen Taiyi, a cold smile appeared on the corners of his lips. “It’s a shame to say it. When I went to the Internal Punishment Court, I accidentally fell.  Unfortunately, a broken bamboo that was sticking out of the snow pierced the side of my leg. It was such an insignificant injury that it was no longer necessary to alarm the Imperial Hospital; Chang Defu’s medical knowledge was enough to treat the wound.”

Yong Sheng obviously got the conclusive news; he came well prepared to watch a good show. After listening to Yong Shan’s remarks, he deliberately frowned and said, “Bamboo? But why did I hear that it was a stabbing? In any case, we’ll be able to tell at a glance how you acquired the wound. Your Highness’s health is more important. Please allow Chen Taiyi to look at the wound.”

Shu Fei trembled as she watched Chen Taiyi move forward. She felt restless and fidgety as if a cat’s paw was scratching at her heart. She glanced at Yong Sheng secretly, wishing to shoot this idiot together with his mother with arrows.

Yong Shan leaned on the bed, and did not make a sound.

Chang Defu waited on the sidelines with a solemn expression. He saw Yong Shan’s face turn pale, thinking that it was because he was lying uncomfortably, he quickly took a small soft pillow and placed it under his waist. He slipped to the other side of the bed, then rubbed Yong Shan’s shoulder gently.

While serving diligently, he squinted to see Chen Taiyi.

Chen Taiyi knelt on the side of the bed and asked Yong Shan for permission. He lifted his shirt and took off his pants. As expected, a dense layer of white gauze wrapped around his thigh.

After Chen Taiyi looked at it, he said respectfully, “Your Highness, please forgive me. This lowly official will undo the gauze and examine the wound before he can give treatment.”

Shu Fei’s heart was cold and couldn’t help but cry out, “What happened to the imperial doctor today? The wound has already been dressed and should be treated with care. Wouldn’t it cause His Highness pain if you undo the gauze rashly? A Doctor should treat the patient as a parent does her child. For Taiyi to complete his duty he insists on examining an insignificant wound without regard for the prince’s suffering?”

“Niangniang is right. This lowly official is here for the sake of his duty.” Chen Taiyi was on his knees, motionless. He glanced upward, and his dim old eyes flashed with a bit of light. His tone, neither humble nor overbearing, “This lowly official came by Imperial orders, who would dare to refuse the Emperor’s order in this world?”

This argument crushed Shu Fei and caused her to choke.

Yong Sheng was so proud that he almost laughed out loud.

Then Chen Taiyi turned his head to look at Yong Shan, “Your Highness, this lowly official is about to untie the gauze. It will hurt a bit, please bear with me.”

Yong Shan frowned slightly, then relaxed, “If you want to examine it, then so be it. After all, it is better to feel pain in the short-term instead of suffering over a long period.” Then he looked at Shu Fei.

Chen Taiyi agreed with his statement, then proceeded cautiously.

Shu Fei’s heartbeat quickened, as she nervously tightened her hold on her sleeves.

Although Yong Shan was cold on the surface, he had always taken good care of his younger brother, Yong Lin, and always protected Yong Lin at the most critical moment.

But he was also reluctant to sacrifice Yong Qi.

This child, did he have other silly thoughts in his mind?

Thinking of this, Shu Fei became even more distressed and could no longer sit still. She stood up and moved behind Chen Taiyi, watching with concern.

The gauze was undone layer by layer. The first few layers remained white and pristine; however, the last layer was soaked through with blood oozing from the wound, showing how seriously he was injured.

Shock overcame Shu Fei; her heart trembled at the severity of the wound. She cursed Yong Lin again in her heart, this deadly boy, hurting his brother to this extent.

The last layer of gauze was finally undone, exposing the wound.

Shu Fei exclaimed and let out a shocking cry.

The wound on Yong Shan’s leg was extremely uneven – lacerated skin and exposed flesh, blood oozing unceasingly. The exposed flesh appeared a little white, looking extremely terrifying.

Taken aback, Chen Taiyi said in horror, “Your Highness is seriously injured. How can you not notify the Imperial Hospital? This bamboo accident in the Internal Punishment Court has caused a lot of trouble.”

“Bamboo?” Yong Sheng jumped from his chair. He had an ominous look as he approached, and asked suspiciously, “Chen Taiyi, was His Highness really hurt by a bamboo?”

“Your Highness Yong Sheng can see from the wound. There are still bamboo splinters in the wound; it’s no wonder that it would be the unbearable pain.” Chen Taiyi opened the small medicine box he brought with him, took out the tools, and started picking up the bamboo splinters from Yong Shan’s wound.

From where he stood, Yong Sheng stared intently at the terrible wound, trying to find a trace of a stabbing. However, a knife wound would be small and proportional to the size of the instrument; knives were usually thin and its width, small compared to a bamboo. So how could he find any trace of the stabbing this easily when there was a larger wound caused by a broken bamboo?

Right at this moment, Chang Defu, who was initially rubbing Yong Shan’s shoulder, ran to the front of the bed, threw himself on his knees and confessed his guilt. “This lowly servant deserves to die. Yesterday, with this servant’s old eyes that can no longer see properly under the little brightness from the candlelight, this servant left several bamboo splinters in His Highness’ wound, aggravating its condition. This servant deserves to die.”

“Get up.” Yong Shan gritted his teeth to endure the pain, and snorted, “Who has the will to blame you at this time? Help me wipe the sweat from my forehead.”

Chang Defu breathed a sigh of relief and quickly ran up to wipe his sweat carefully.

While Chen Taiyi removed the bamboo splinters, Shu Fei was sweating from behind. After all, he was her biological son. Seeing the flesh on his leg mutilated to the point that blood continued to flow without ceasing, Shu Fei felt sick to her stomach. Her knees grew soft as she staggered back. She turned around and ran out of the prince’s chamber. She leaned against a pillar, covering her mouth with one hand, and with a “wa” sound, she vomited on the ground.

Only after expelling the sour, acidic water in her stomach did she finally stop retching. The palace servants and eunuchs came, carrying hot water and towels to attend to Shu Fei.

After the servants attended to Shu Fei’s and cleaned up her vomit, she went back to see Yong Shan with trembling legs.

Fortunately, despite Chen Taiyi’s advanced age, his hands were still very steady. After he carefully removed every splinter, he applied medicine into the wound, and then wrapped it with white gauze.

A while passed after Chen Taiyi dressed the prince’s wound, then he stood up and saluted Yong Shan and Shu Fei, “The injury His Highness suffered resulted from a broken bamboo that stabbed his leg. Now that we have treated the wound, I have already written down the prescription to send to the Imperial Hospital for brewing. This lowly official has to return to the Emperor, and must leave first.”

Yong Sheng came thinking victory was in his grasp, only to leave disappointed. Knowing he was at a disadvantage, he didn’t dare tarry, deciding to take his leave and slip away with Chen Taiyi.

Chang Defu respectfully sent them out of the Prince’s Manor.

At this time, only Yong Shan and Shu Fei remained in the Prince’s chamber.

Yong Shan’s face was pale because of the pain from his injury. Seeing Shu Fei lost in thought, he laughed, “Mother looks no better than before. I remember when Father Emperor discovered Xiao Fei’s intent to poison him, he was so furious that he sentenced Xiao Fei to be put to death by a thousand cuts. He also ordered all the concubines and princes in the harem to observe as they carried out the punishment. At that time, blood splattered all over the place and scared many concubines. Only Mother and Li Fei stood firm from beginning to end. Why do you now vomit at the sight of a little blood?”

Shu Fei gave him a profound look and sighed, “When you have your own child in the future, you will know the difference between other people’s blood and your own child’s blood. You will understand what it is like in the future.”

For a while, Yong Shan was taken aback by his mother’s utterance, then sighed as if to concede.

“I don’t have to wait until such a time. I already know how it feels.” Unable to tell whether he was weak after the injury, but his voice was extremely low, almost inaudible. “Mother, I burned Yong Qi… with a hot branding iron…”

Shu Fei trembled.

She stretched out her hands, as if she wanted to embrace Yong Shan.

However, Yong Shan suddenly turned his face away. He fell to the bed and cried like an injured beast suffering an indescribable torment and pain.

——–

The blessings and misfortunes in the Imperial Palace were happening in a blink of an eye. Yong Sheng took the lead in reporting that his Highness Yong Shan’s injury was due to stabbing, only to lose face in front of the Emperor when the Imperial Physician confirmed that a broken bamboo was ultimately the cause. Even Jin Fei trembled at the thought that Yong Shan would fight back and put forth charges of “false accusations” against Yong Sheng for the price of his head.

However, not only was Yong Shan – who was recovering in the Prince’s Manor, silent, even the Emperor was not very angry. A few days later, an Imperial decree was issued, saying, “During the period of the Prince’s recovery, trivial state affairs still needed to be taken care of,” and ordered “Prince Yong Sheng shall act as auxiliary leader-in-training until such time that His Highness the Prince is able to resume his duties.”

Yong Sheng was both surprised and delighted. This time it was really a blessing in disguise. Although the incident did not pose any serious threat to Yong Shan’s affairs, the heavens still blessed him with such luck and gave him an opportunity to participate in state affairs.

While Yong Shan was recovering, the Fifth Prince began to manage some small foreign affairs.

Like that, the rumors about assassination came to an end.

Yong Shan’s leg bled profusely after the stabbing. A broken bamboo later pierced the same wound to conceal the actual cause. Although he had been practicing martial arts since he was a child – developing his muscles and hardening his bones, his wound worsened the next day after being subject to such trouble.

He had a strong nature. Fearing that news of his worsened conditioned would reach his Father’s ears and set off another inquiry, he forbade the members of his household from reporting to the palace. Due to the uncertainty of how things would end up if another investigation occurred, he sat bravely on his bed, drinking the decoction from the Imperial Hospital and read the trivial reports throughout the night.

After a few days of delay, the wound did not heal completely. His symptoms did not alleviate, and he now suffered a fever; his mouth remained dry no matter how much water he drank. After another two or three days, he could barely even sit up.

It was only then that Chang Defu realized how bad the situation was. He was so scared that he did not know what to do.

If they had reported this at the onset, things would not have worsened to this extent.

Now that the illness became like this, suddenly reporting his condition would surely alarm the Emperor.

He was so anxious and restless, like an ant crawling on a hot pot. After thinking about it for a while, he finally hurried to see Shu Fei.  The shock that the news brought Shu Fei prompted her to hurry to the Prince’s Manor, even forgetting to have them prepare her sedan chair, running frantically, the snow falling on her cloak. After arriving, she hurried to the bedside and found Yong Shan flushed with fever, his outline considerably thinner.

Shu Fei was both sad and angry. She pointed at Chang Defu and cursed him on the spot, “Impudent! Do you know how noble and precious his body is? How dare you keep silent and let his wound worsen! After seeing him ill for a number of days, you still did not dare to report to my palace? Since he ordered you not to tell on his condition, yet seeing how much his health has deteriorated, you still would not report it? Take heed, even without the Emperor’s decree, Bengong* will strike you first if Yong Shan were to have an unexpected disaster or accident!”

(*used by Empress or high ranking consort; meaning, I.)

Yong Shan, who was drowsy due to his illness, heard Shu Fei cursing. He barely opened his eyes, saying, “Mother, your son is only suffering from a little fever. It will be fine in few days.”

When Shu Fei saw Yong Shan awake, she quickly lowered to her waist and said softly, “Yong Shan, your body is not good. Do not speak anymore. Mother brought the thousand-year-old Laoshan ginseng (Polygonum) rewarded by your father last month. It’s being boiled right now.” She said and reached out her hand to touch Yong Shan’s forehead lightly. His forehead was as hot as hot as a soldering iron, shocking Shu Fei and causing her to draw back in surprise.

Yong Shan smiled in a daze. However, before he could even say anything, another figure flashed in front of the bed. It was Yong Lin, with a look of guilt, he said, “Ge, I… I… I was wrong…” He fell to his knees in front of the bed with a plop, enfolding Yong Shan’s hand in his, and said, “It’s all my fault. Gege, do not be angry, your health is more important. When Gege gets better, you can fight or kill me as you want.” His tears fell, running down on his already runny nose.

Yong Shan did not expect that he still had the courage to come over, and was suddenly taken by surprise. He thought about Yong Lin breaking the law of the Internal Punishment Court and even dared to confront him that day. He did not show any mercy when he drew a knife and struck people. Suddenly, his anger arose. He was about to throw his hand off, but when he looked over and met Shu Fei’s pleading gaze, he was stunned for a moment, and then he sighed slightly in his heart. He looked at Yong Lin, whose face was exactly like his, but crying like a child, his tears rolling down like a waterfall, seeming as if he was extremely regretful. Yong Shan’s heart softened again.

Chapter 43

Both of them seemed to be smirking rather than smiling at each other. After exchanging fake pleasantries, Xue Jingshan led the way. As if he had a guilty conscience, Ye NanQi turned around, for fear he’d see Shen Du come out from somewhere.

Xue Jingshan took him inside, which didn’t look any different from any other place. As they walked, he introduced the Feng Shui of the Xue’s main house and the interesting things that happened in those places.

Ye NanQi smiled as he responded to what he was told. However, his wariness also seemed to increase another level.

Unlike Qian Qian, Xue Jingshan’s scheming was clearly more significant and higher. He was also good at pretending to be a kind person. If Ye NanQi hadn’t known of his true colors since before, he would doubt whether he was looking for the wrong person.

The main house was big and wide. As they walked in deeper, Ye NanQi secretly noted the path. The deeper they went, the quieter it became, as if the sound was blocked from all sides. Ye NanQi narrowed his eyes, his body tightened.

Where was Xue Jingshan intending to take him?

Did he want to lure him in, knock him out and kidnap him? However, it was unlikely for someone like Xue Jingshan to do such a nasty thing. He’d be easily exposed.

While he was thinking, Xue Jingshan stopped in his steps, smiled, and pointed to the front. “We’re here.”

He’d been taken to a separate garden, it was small, with several flowers and trees, with rockery and an artificial lake. The crescent moon was half hanging in the cold and dark night sky, it looked quiet and beautiful.

Ye NanQi smiled at him. While he was looking around in a calm manner, he touched the listening device and recorder in his pocket.

Before coming to the Xue family today, Ye NanQi had already discussed this matter with Li Hengran. As soon as he came in contact with the people from the Xues, Ye NanQi would switch on the device, and if anything were to happen, Li Hengran would arrive as quickly as possible.

Xue Jingshan, who didn’t seem to notice his little movements, said leisurely, “The scenery here is good. My brothers and sisters and I used to come here when we were kids. Does NanQi have any sisters?”

Ye NanQi paused. Then he smiled lightly. “There is an older sister and a younger sister. Since there is nothing good about them, I’d rather not bring them up.”

Xue Jingshan still had his usual expression and tone as he talked, “It’s so nice to have sisters. I mostly have brothers in the family. If they don’t agree with each other on something, they will start a fight. I still have a scar on my body, which I accidentally got when I fought with my cousin. Boys, they’re easily provoked.”

The two sat in the pavilion, and Xue Jingshan talked about everything freely. Except for the problems with family members at the beginning, he never mentioned anything about Ye Mei’s secret.

Ye NanQi was full of doubts and talked cautiously during their conversation. Suddenly, Xue Jingshan smiled at someone behind him. “Oh, you came.”

Ye NanQi turned around slowly, and saw “Young Master Bai” walk towards them.

If he hadn’t seen him at that party, Ye NanQi wouldn’t believe that such a cold-looking noble son would be one of those perverts.

Xue Jingshan smiled as he introduced the other party, “This is Bai Yu.”

Bai Yu didn’t have any expression, his eyes were cold; sitting on one side, he nodded slightly at Ye NanQi. The last time they were in the same room, they were seated far from each other, but this time, they were sitting so close. Their proximity allowed Ye NanQi to listen to his voice and realized that it was clear, deep and sweet, and had a certain all and texture that seemed to say, “Long time no see. It’s been a while since we last met.”

Ye NanQi intuitively felt that this person was different from the people in the organization he had seen so far.

It was unclear what was different about him; it was hard to identify due to its subtlety.

Bai Yu glanced slightly at Ye NanQi. After a moment, he looked away, and didn’t speak again, showing a face that lacked any interest. Seeing that he was silent, Xue Jingshan frowned imperceptibly, and then restarted the topic with a smile. “NanQi, I haven’t seen any news about you recently. Did something happen?”

Immediately, Ye NanQi started mouthing off some made up reason. “I’m sorry to have worried you, it’s just that after listening to a senior’s insights, I wanted to settle my affairs, learn more, and then return to the screen to live up to everyone’s love for me.”

The corners of Bai Yu’s mouth curved when the words came out. Xue Jingshan was silent. Everyone knew it was a lie, but he still had a sincere tone, “I’ve seen many artists who have a bit of fame buying hot searches in front of the public. It is really rare for NanQi to have such a steady state of mind.”

He said, gazing at Bai Yu. For a moment, his eyes were no longer kind; they were dark, gloomy, and held an inquiring gaze that carried a lot of meaning.

Bai Yu didn’t respond. After listening to their hypocritical exchange go on for a long while, he finally said, “Jingshan, it’s time to see the old man, let’s go.” As he said, his eyes fell on Ye NanQi.

Ye NanQi smiled. His bright and innocent smile was exactly the same as Ye Mei’s, as if they were carved out of the same mold.

The emotion in Bai Yu’s eyes was unfathomable and he slowly said, “We’re leaving now.”

Ye NanQi smiled and nodded. His eyes were cold as he stood up and watched them leave.

The look in Bai Yu’s eyes.

Even if he wanted to protect himself by saying he didn’t know anything about the matter, it was impossible.

It was just that this person… he felt different from the others. Xue XiangYu said that those people were obsessed with his sister and wanted to find a substitute. Those people were interested in Ye NanQi even if they didn’t have any feelings for him. But Bai Yu seemed to be really obsessed with Ye Mei and was not interested in finding a replacement at all.

Did Xue Jingshan want to do something to him, and Bai Yu stopped him?

As soon as the two of them left, Xue XiangYu rushed out from who knows where, smiled and said, “Baby, you have a lot of courage. That tiger likes to smile and eat the chick without leaving any skin. You are so obedient, you even followed him when he asked you to come.”

Ye NanQi glanced at him. “You followed us?”

“I was afraid they’ll eat you together.” Although Xue XiangYu smiled, his face was not so relaxed, he warned, “Also, Bai Yu is not easy to provoke, and I can’t figure out his attitude. Don’t provoke him. He and Qian Qian are on completely different levels, his frown is enough to scare the whole Qian family to death.”

Ye NanQi vaguely remembered Bai Yu’s background and shook his head. Regardless of whether he could provoke him or not, as long as he continued to investigate, he would have more encounters with Bai Yu and conflict might be unavoidable.

It was just that Bai Yu’s attitude was indeed too strange.

While he was still thinking, Xue XiangYu hesitated for a moment, and then opened his mouth again, “Just another piece of advice, be careful of Shen Du.”

Upon hearing Shen Du’s name, Ye NanQi’s mind went blank for a moment. “What do you mean?”

Xue XiangYu slowly said, “The people in this organization are quite perverted. They may have been pretending to be psychologically distorted all day long. In addition to Qian Qian and the Han family, who just snatch anyone whenever they like, there is also the kind of people who will test the waters, approaching step by step, pretending to pursue persistently, holding people up to the cloud, and when they finally touch the other person’s heart, they will throw them fiercely to the ground—it’s the kind of method they enjoy playing. I’ve always had a strange feeling, how could the bad tempered young master of the Shen family help you? Have you ever realized that they are everywhere, pulling the rich and powerful businessmen into the water? Shen Du is the only son of the Shen family, and the Shen family is an old family with a big and powerful background. How could they not find him…”

In an instant, Ye NanQi felt his hands and feet grow cold. It’s the early summer, yet it seemed that he was in the middle of winter, and even his thoughts were frozen.

He closed his eyes and said coldly, “What nonsense are you talking about?.”

“Don’t believe me?” Xue XiangYu raised his eyebrows. “Don’t you think it’s strange that he’s suddenly being kind to you? He’s not a person who would sympathize with others. Besides, I heard Xue Jingshan say with my own ears. He had invited Shen Du before.”

Ye NanQi’s mind became confused.

Logic tells him, Xue XiangYu wasn’t worthy of being trusted, and he should believe in Shen Du instead.

But that wasn’t the case emotionally.

From childhood to adulthood, whenever he met Shen Du, conflict was sure to arise. Shen Du treated him well…very well, he also found it strange. Why would Shen Du like him, why did he want to like him, was it really like what Xue XiangYu said?

Ye NanQi clenched his fists unconsciously, desperately trying to get rid of the weird feeling in his heart. He didn’t want to doubt Shen Du even a bit.

Shen Du was so good to him. For someone like himself, who has never had a taste, and yearned for the sweetness of candy, if he were handed a piece of delicious cake, just the scent would be tempting..

“I’m not quite sure if he joined or not, but one thing is for sure, he knew about the existence of this organization. Did he ever tell you that?” Xue Xiangyu smiled maliciously. “Although you suspect that those people are bad, you’d better be a little wary and not send yourself to the wolf’s mouth like a rabbit. If by any chance he is really one of those perverted people, he may seem to be pursuing you, but is actually just playing with you, then…”

“Shut up!” Ye NanQi gritted his teeth and interrupted him coldly.

Xue XiangYu obediently stopped talking about it. After observing his expression, he smiled strangely. “Look at you all flustered, are you interested in him?”

Ye NanQi was expressionless. “You should take care of your own business first, before worrying about my business.”

After he finished speaking, he left straight away, exited the gate of the yard, and was shocked to find that Shen Du was actually waiting outside.

Did he hear that?

Ye NanQi shook his head. Their voices were very small, and they were a bit farther away, Shen Du couldn’t have heard their conversation.

Seeing Ye NanQi come out, Shen Du, who had been waiting for a long time, didn’t say anything. He came over and touched his head out of habit and joked, “You follow strangers and run around without any vigilance. In the future, I’m afraid I can’t let our daughter follow you, but I hope they look like you…”

Xue XiangYu’s voice echoed in Ye NanQi’s mind again. He hadn’t even fully digested his thoughts, but his body flinched and he shrunk back, as if by reflex.

Shen Du was taken aback, noticing that his expression didn’t seem right, his pretentious smile gradually faded, and he asked, “What happened?”

Ye NanQi moved his lips. He wanted to ask him if what Xue XiangYu said was true, but he couldn’t say what he wanted.

He was scared.

Shen Du was an accident in his life, like an illusory dream, and he was afraid that it was all fake.

If even such a good Shen Du was an illusion, what was left for him then?

Ye NanQi even came up with an idea―if, if Shen Du really was… he couldn’t bring himself to expose him, couldn’t bring himself to give up on him, couldn’t…

He had never gotten anything. Since the beginning, Shen Du didn’t belong to him. However, he was afraid of losing whatever it was that they had right now, and he didn’t even have the courage to confirm it.

Ye NanQi had never hated his cowardice so much before.

Shen Du keenly aware of Ye NanQi’s reaction. The way he reacted was different from when he tried to avoid his feelings. It was like he was backing away from a horrible scene.

What did those people tell him?

Shen Du was suddenly annoyed. He was worried when Ye NanQi went to inquire about the news, and just waited outside with anxiety, who knew it would turn out like this when he came out.

He took a deep breath and suppressed his anger. It was inconvenient to say anything to the Xue’s family. He pursed his lips and stared at Ye NanQi, ready to wait until they went back to make things clear.

Xue family bastards, you’d best pray that you didn’t say anything to Ye NanQi.

Chapter 14: WiFi Signal

Proofread/edit: adlt1226

Wishing for the stars and the moon, the long-awaited dinner date with Xiao Yao had finally arrived.

And at the same time, he came down with a cold.

Ti Xiao sneezed a lot. After wiping his nose with tissue paper, several sneezes followed. As a result, Xiao Hulu ran so far away from him, for fear of being infected with the virus this human beast carried.

This really did make him become a big sneezer.

As for the reason he caught a cold, instead of blaming how poor his physical fitness was, Mr. Pass The Buck little expert thought that it was because Xiao Yao squeezed his face that day. It made him so happy that he took off his big cotton jacket and painted the wall under the cold weather.

But no matter how bad his condition worsened, he still had to go out to have a meal with Xiao Yao, even if he had to blow his nose off. After all, he had waited for a month for this opportunity to light the sparks.

Thinking like this, Ti Xiao took out the long red trousers his mother bought him on his birthday.

In fact, Ti Xiao wasn’t the only one looking forward to this dinner. Xiao Yao did as well.

Xiao Yao’s anticipation led him to overthink. He kept trying to come up with reasons as to why they were having dinner together. In the end, he convinced himself that he was finally returning the favor.

He looked at his bank account to check the first month’s salary. Although it wasn’t much, Xiao Yao wasn’t short of money either. However, this dinner date made Xiao Yao really excited all night, making him feel an intense fulfillment in his heart.

The restaurant had already been booked in advance, and he also agreed with Little Bunny to meet downstairs at five.

Xiao Yao looked at his wristwatch; there was still 15 minutes before five o’clock.

He rubbed his hands together, unable to figure out whether his current state was due to the cold or due to his excitement.

Truthfully speaking, because Xiao Yao lived abroad for a while, and was exposed to the rain and cold weather all year round, his resistance to the cold was higher than most people. That’s why when he returned to China and experienced this winter, he didn’t feel that cold even when he only wore a windbreaker and a jacket.

This was a total contrast to Ti Xiao.

So while Ti Xiao, who was afraid of the cold, came out wearing a scarf and a fluffy coat, he saw Xiao Yao wearing only a thin jacket with the cuffs pulled up a little.

He frowned and realized that things were not that simple. One was short in height and wrapped himself like a ball, and the other was tall and dressed refreshingly, showing his narrow waist and long legs. With their height difference, the picture they painted was a vivid interpretation of the big-headed son and a small-headed father.

Xiao Yao smiled when he saw Ti Xiao dressed up like a ball. This seemed to be the first time he saw Little Bunny all dressed up, with a light gray and blue outfit.

When Xiao Yao saw Ti Xiao wrapping himself into a bundle with a little bun on top of his head, his first impression of Ti Xiao was of a ball, bouncing and jumping all over. Although that impression has almost faded, he still remembered.

“Where are we going?” Ti Xiao asked, sniffing, and his voice sounded hoarse.

The black jacket Xiao Yao was wearing was a little bit large. He crossed his two long legs one on top of the other as he leaned against the wall.

Ti Xiao wore a fluffy down coat that covered his thighs and a little bit of his knees. He stood to the side and looked at Ti Xiao, tilting his head up slightly.

This time, the sight they made was like a scene from a song titled Where are we going, Dad?

Xiao Yao didn’t answer his question. Instead, he asked, “Did you catch a cold? Have you taken your medicine yet?”

Aiyou aiyou, the little goblin really cares about people.

Ti Xiao was happy in his heart, but still insisted, “No, I just woke up.”

Right after he finished speaking, a big sneeze resounded across the sky.

“Still reluctant to admit it*.” Xiao Yao frowned. “Do you have medicine at home? If not, do you want to buy some on the way later?”

(*嘴硬; literally means stiff mouth. Also mean: stubborn and reluctant to admit mistakes or defeat.)

Stiff or not, you will know when you come to kiss it.

“It’s okay. I’m in good health, and I don’t need to take medicine for a cold.” Ti Xiao quickly waved his hand. “Let’s go. If we don’t go now, it will be dark soon.”

Despite what he said, Xiao Yao still added a note to his phone memo——

“Take Little Bunny to buy cold medicine.”

The two left after the exchange. Ti Xiao kept peeking at Xiao Yao secretly, with his face hidden under his scarf. What he saw was the other’s calm expression, like still waters, as if nothing could make him panic. Finally, his gaze rested on the hand that swayed with every step.

But what Ti Xiao actually had in mind right now was, I wonder if he will pinch my face again today?

——————

The restaurant Xiao Yao reserved was quite famous for its special dish in Xuancheng. Ti Xiao also often came here to eat with his family before.

“Mr. Xiao Yao, right?” The waitress looked at the reservation list, “I’m sorry, the big table you reserved is currently occupied. We estimate that it will take a while until the table becomes available. But if there are only two people in your party, would you mind sitting in the couple’s booth?”

Couple?

While Xiao Yao was stunned, Ti Xiao was bathed with joy.

The reason why he reserved a large table was because he didn’t know what Ti Xiao liked to eat, so he ordered a lot of dishes in advance. There wouldn’t be enough space if they sat at a couple’s booth.

He thought for a while and decided to ask Ti Xiao for his opinion.

As soon as he turned around, he heard a long “Guru——”.

Alright, Xiao Yao turned his head back again, if it’s a couple’s booth then the couple’s booth it is. Making people hungry is not good.

“I don’t mind, take us over.” Xiao Yao said.

“Please prepare more tissue paper, my friend has a cold,” he added.

Ti Xiao stuffed his nose and patted his stomach with satisfaction, thanking it for its divine assistance.

The couple’s booth was set in a special area, with soft piano music playing in the background and orange-pink lighting, making the ambiance a little ambiguous. The whole area exuded a very romantic feeling, which was very different from the noisy hall outside. It was worthy of the “couple” reference.

Most of the couples in the area were lovers – men, and women, who were enjoying themselves and their meal since a while ago. But as soon as Xiao Yao – the Holly Sky Tree, appeared by the entrance, there were whispers and all kinds of unexplained stares directed at him.

Ti Xiao, who was following behind Xiao Yao, felt unhappy in his heart. He wished to block all the stares directed at Xiao Yao.

Don’t look, you can’t look. He’s mine.

Xiao Yao seemed accustomed to receiving these kinds of gazes, so he turned a blind eye to all of it, and only lightly scanned the surroundings. Then he found an area where there was warm air blowing from the air conditioner.

After taking their seats, and even before they had time to speak, their cell phones rang almost simultaneously.

For Ti Xiao, it was a notification for the comments on his Weibo. Because his serialization had recently reached a key point in the plot, it created hype among the readers and they were urging him for more. Ti Xiao wondered if he could open a wave of welfare and trap the readers first.

Xiao Yao, who sat on the opposite side, also looked down at his phone. He tapped his slender fingers on the screen from time to time.

Ti Xiao separated his slightly long bangs and snuck a glance at Xiao Yao, only to hate that his visual acuity was not 2.0.

But he seemed to distinguish a photo on his phone screen.

It was unknown what kind of photo it was exactly.

On Xiao Yao’s side, he received a message from Naomi, and it was indeed a photo.

The photo was of a mixed-race baby with blue eyes and fluffy brown curly hair. Whoever saw this photo, would say that this was cute.

But no matter how cute this photo was, for Xiao Yao, he couldn’t be happy.

Ti Xiao cautiously looked at Xiao Yao from the opposite side. The other person slightly furrowed his eyebrows, the corners of his mouth pursed, and the word unhappy was written all over his face. Seeing this expression, Ti Xiao really wanted to reach out and comfort him.

However, he could only sigh and started replying to readers’ comments.

Reply@are we going for a drive today: go go go, we’ll meet Qiu Mingshan tonight.

(I’m not sure what to use here. 开车; literally means drive a car. But on the internet, it can be used to describe something perverted. And TX’s work was drawing BL, so that’s it.)

Looks like I have to work overtime tonight.

When Ti Xiao put down his phone, Xiao Yao’s phone vibrated twice.

Naomi: You really don’t plan to come see him?

Xiao Yao was about to reply to the message, but someone called his name not far away.

“Xiao Yao?”

The other person was a man in a black sweater. His eyes were narrow, his eyebrows were slightly raised, his face was feminine, and the height… was taller than Ti Xiao’s.

In Ti Xiao’s view, this kind of person was very suitable as a vicious gay partner in comics.

But unexpectedly, when Xiao Yao raised his head and looked up, the knit between his brows eased, “Li Yi, why are you here?”

Li Yi replied, “You’re not the owner of this shop, why can’t I be here? But you, why don’t you tell me when you come back home? I’ve been running errands for you for nothing for the past three years.”

Xiao Yao only smiled but didn’t answer him.

Ti Xiao, who sat on the other side, had no idea what their conversation was about.

This vicious male partner seemed very familiar with Xiao Yao; was he a high school classmate or a junior high school classmate?

“You are still the same. You didn’t tell us anything when you went abroad and left without a word that year.” Li Yi shrugged his shoulders carelessly, and turned his gaze to Ti Xiao, “But then again.”

Li Yi slightly raised his chin in a frivolous manner.

“Is this your boyfriend?”

I don’t know when I’ll be busy again, so gotta rush the update while I can. Once again, no edit. Hope you enjoy.

Before her son was crowned as the current Crown Prince position, she had prepared to accept many more obstacles piling up in the future. But what she did not expect was that the first obstacle turned out to be this little devil.

Assassination of the Prince, what is the punishment of this crime?

“What happened today, I already know even before the sun sets.” Shu Fei breathed out slowly. “I already got the news, maybe soon, on Jin Fei’s side will also receive it.” In the quiet inner room, the reverberating low voice was a bit gloomy.

“Jin Fei?” Yong Lin was surprised, “How can there be any of them in the Internal Punishment Court?”

“If we can place our people there, why can’t they do the same? Maybe, even people from Li Fei’s side are also there.” Shu Fei sneered, but the touch she gave the son in her arms was very gentle.

Strange, this pair of twins, one seemed to have grown up at a very young age, so big that he could never be hugged again forever.

While the other one, seemed to never grow up at all.

As long as she could hug him like this, she would always feel that this little son always needed to be protected by his mother, so as not to be hurt by those wrecked people outside.

“Yong Lin, if this thing were to get out, do you know what will happen?”

“I know.” Yong Lin said solemnly: “I will die. Causing injury to the Prince is a deathly crime that cannot be forgiven. But mother,” raising his head in Shu Fei’s arms, his eyes filled with anticipation, “Yong Shan gege said, he won’t let this matter leak out, and will just assume like nothing has ever happened.”

“It’s best if it could be suppressed. But what if the secret can’t be kept hidden forever?”

Yong Lin was startled.

Shu Fei chuckled and looked at him lovingly. “Don’t be afraid, child.”

At this moment, she felt like she had returned back to the past a long time ago. One time, Yong Lin sneaked into his father’s study and broke his father’s most beloved inkstone. When he ran back to tell his mother in a hurry, it was also this same kind of innocence, hoping that things would be kept secret forever.

Shu Fei’s voice was gentle, just like the silk hanging down from all directions, like looming smoke triggered by the gust of wind.

“If the thing leaks out, someone will die. But the one who dies will not be you.”

Because of his leg injury, Yong Shan was sleepless all night.

Unable to figure out whether the pain was from his heart, or from the wound on his leg, he tossed and turned, like a continuous stream of tides, wave after wave, came and went again.

When he closed his eyes, he could only see Yong Qi’s bloody neck and his expression of sadness and fear.

Yong Qi rushed over, holding Yong Lin who had fallen to the ground, looked at him lovingly, then turned his head and stared at himself hatefully.

Love and hatred can be changed so quickly in the blink of an eye.

Yong Shan signed for this thinking.

Then he smiled bitterly and snorted.

“Your Highness, is the pain getting better?” Chang Defu, who was half-kneeling near the bedside, asked carefully. “Would you…  like to get some painkiller medicine?”

“No need, is it dawn?”

Chang Defu replied softly, “The sun has raised high and bright. Your Highness is unwell, why not rest a little longer today.”

Yong Shan let out an “hmm” casually.

He was indeed a little tired, probably because of too much blood lost yesterday that he felt all of his limbs were weak. He looked at the top of the official affair, thinking about today’s plan.

There was nothing much involved in the government affairs. The civil and military officials who were instructed to assist him would write down the memorials and submit them as abbreviations, and they would take care of all the trivial matters by themselves. As for the major matters that need to be handled by his own, about two hours or so would be enough.

Also, he would leave a little time to visit the Grand Mentor.

As for the Internal Punishment Court…

Suddenly, there was a sharp pain in his leg making Yong Shan’s cheek twitch. He silently grabbed the quilt beside him.

He did not know what happened to Yong Qi, or the people who attended to him did take care of him wholeheartedly or not. The burn was painful and Yong Qi was also a person who was extremely afraid of pain. Like that, he did not know how many times he would wake up on such a night worrying about it.

Yong Shan wanted to see this restless older brother of his, but his body did not follow his mind at all.

How to go see him? Yong Shan felt disappointed.

Yong Qi hated him so much, to the point that in his eyes, whenever he saw himself, he would grit his teeth, bear his fang and regard him as no different from a demon in hell.

And Yong Lin? That deadly boy, since childhood, he had always been the type of a laid back person, and never learned his lesson. Whenever he was in the palace, he would make trouble, making people angry. Why didn’t he use more force when kicking him yesterday?

Yong Shan thought in a daze. The wound on his leg was still aching, and the pain made his forehead swell. Self-mockingly, he laughed at himself. To say that Yong Qi was tender and afraid of pain, but in fact, why did it not seem like the case to him?

He closed his eyes and wanted to sleep in peace for a while, but the things in his mind kept coming one after another. While he was thinking about things silently, suddenly Chang Defu came kneeling beside the bed and whispered, “Your Highness, His Royal Highness Yong Lin is here.”

Yong Shan suddenly opened his eyes. After a moment of silence, he ordered: “Chase him out. I won’t allow him to take even a single step forward.”

“Your Highness…”

“Did you not hear me?”

“Your Highness… His Royal Highness Yong Lin has been kneeling in the center in front of the Prince’s Manor, saying that he had made a huge mistake. If His Highness did not see him, he would not get up. The wind there is very strong, and I’m afraid that if he kneels for a long time, His Highness Yong Lin will get sick.”

After Chang Defu finished speaking, there was another silence in the hall. After half a day, a cold humming sound was heard. “He has thick skin and thick flesh, I’m afraid that even if he wants to get sick, he can’t.”

Listening to Yong Shan’s indifferent tone, Chang Defu didn’t dare to speak casually, but replied, “Yes.” He held his breath, closed his eyes, waiting for Yong Shan’s command.

Sure enough, after a while, Yong Shan spoke again. “What kind of place is the Prince’s Manor? He can kneel just because he said he wanted to kneel? If he refuses to leave, you find two guards, tie him up for me, and send him back to Shu Fei Palace.”

Chang Defu said “Yes” again. After waiting for a while, he asked softly, “Your Highness, the pain on your injured leg, if the medicinal soup is useless, why not find someone to massage the plantar acupoints to ease the pain? I heard that it can be useful.”

With no further command, Yong Shan gave him an acknowledgement.

Chang Defu carried out the orders and soon came back to report, “His Royal Highness Yong Lin has been taken back to Shu Fei Palace.” Chang Defu has been following Yong Shan for a long time, so he knew how Yong Shan did not like to smile, and hated people who talk too much. He wisely did not open his mouth again, and quietly exited the door.

Soon after, another figure walked silently to the side of the bed and knelt through the curtain. Stretching out a pair of crystal-clear and beautiful hands, pinched the soles of Yong Shan’s feet, and massaged him carefully. The intensity and softness were moderate, which really made Yong Shan’s pain seem to be relieved.

Yong Shan groaned in comfort, but his heart jumped slightly. Suddenly, he felt something was wrong. Sitting up, he raised the curtain on the bed, and muttered in surprise: “Mother?”

The person kneeling on the side of the bed, gently pinching Yong Shan’s foot was Shu Fei. She was dressed in a gorgeous palace dress and her dark and shiny hair had a noble concubine bun. She was clearly dressed up. While stretching out her hand to gently massage the soles of Yong Shan’s feet, she raised her head and smiled: “What? Is the pain getting better?”

“Mother, please get up.” Yong Shan took Shu Fei’s hand and frowned, “Please get up. Why would a mother kneel under her son’s bed?”

Shu Fei didn’t move at all. The corner of her mouth twitched and her bitter smile spread across her face like a ripple, “You are already very important, and Yong Lin’s life is in your hands. If mother doesn’t kneel before you, who else is going to kneel?”

“The things regarding Yong Lin, I know exactly how to deal with it, and I won’t let it get out. Mother, get up quickly, don’t kneel like this, son can’t bear it.” Yong Shan moved his feet out of the bed quilt and went to help Shu Fei up. Because his leg was seriously injured, this movement caused him a painful pain, just like his wound being torn apart. He suddenly broke out cold sweat and barely endured the pain as he said to Shu Fei: “Yong Lin is my only brother. How could I not care about his life?”

Only after hearing this sentence then did Shu Fei stand up and sat down on the side of the bed. Seeing that there was cold sweat on Yong Shan’s forehead, she was shocked. She personally wiped it off with her sleeves and said with concern: “Does it hurt so badly? There are medicines in mother’s palace, I’ll let them bring it here…”

Yong Shan shook his head, “No need, it only hurt a bit once in a while. If people keep bringing medicine back and forth, it’s easy to attract more attention and more trouble.”

After Shu Fei taught Yong Lin a lesson last night, she later found the bruise on Yong Lin’s waist, and felt distressed again. She couldn’t help but blame Yong Shan for being too cruel.

However, now that she saw Yong Shan like this, once again, she felt resentful towards Yong Lin, “This child Yong Lin really deserves a beating. He only has one older brother, yet still dared to use swords and fight. If he really hurts you anymore badly, he will regret and insult his gut all his life.”

Yong Shan didn’t make a sound for a while. Later, he said without any expression: “I also kicked him so hard yesterday. Mother remembered to find someone to give him some medicine and don’t let him run around the Palace again, especially when it snows. If the injury is exposed to the windy chill, it’s not fun at all.”

“Mother knows.”

Saying till this point, the two fell silent in union.

Yong Shan leaned back against the head of the bed, the pain of his leg injury hadn’t stopped, but he didn’t say anything, and just silently endured it.

Shu Fei stroked his hand again and again, rubbing the fine cold sweat that oozes from his forehead.

The room seemed to be getting more and more stuffy, making it impossible for people to breathe.

Yong Shan lowered his head. Half of his obsidian eyes were hidden as he whispered: “Mother, go back to the Palace. You don’t have to worry about Yong Lin.”

“Can I not worry?” Shu Fei sighed. “During the time of the accident, although there were only the three of you there, it is hard to guarantee that no one will not see the hint. There are eyes everywhere in such a big palace. Do you think you can hide it completely? I also hope that it can be hidden forever, but in any case, I must plan ahead and think about a way out when things are revealed.”

“A way out?” Yong Shan suddenly sneered. Looking at Shu Fei, his eyes suddenly became cold and sharp, “It turns out that mother has already figured out a way out for son, no, for Yong Lin.”

“It’s for you two brothers.” Shu Fei looked straight at his gaze and replied coldly. For an instant, her expression showed the same arrogance and ruthlessness as Yong Shan, who was born from her same flesh and blood. She said one word at a time: “Causing injury on the Prince, in any case, the only one way out is to die. The cause of your injured leg is unclear. If Jin Fei learns about the news, instructs an imperial physician to come over, and after a small examination, the injury on your leg can be seen that it was wounded by a sword. Then, how do you explain it to your Father Emperor? At that time, there were only three people in the Internal Punishment Court. Who stabbed you? Yong Lin, or Yong Qi?”

“Yong Lin.”

“No, it was Yong Qi.” Shu Fei grasped Yong Shan’s hand, tightened her grip, and refused to let go. She stared into his eyes desperately, as if begging, or at the same time it was also like a warning. “Yong Qi is the most suitable candidate. He was sent back to be interrogated and hated you for taking his position, so he hurt you with hatred. As for you, since you’re still concerned about him being your brother, and can’t bear to put him to death, so you endure it and hide the matter without reporting anything. In the future, if things cannot be concealed and someone discovers your injury, use this statement. Yong Shan, this is what your Father has in mind. It’s all for your own good. Using Yong Qi to shoulder the crime will not only save your brother’s life, but also give you the best excuse, just…”

“It was Yong Lin who did it.”

Shu Fei’s face suddenly changed. “What are you talking about?”

His injured leg was terribly painful, but his eyes were extremely dim at the moment. He didn’t look at Shu Fei, but the corner of his mouth slightly raised upwards, “If things are revealed, I will tell Father Emperor that Yong Lin is the one who did it. Mother, isn’t this the truth?”

“You…” Shu Fei held his hand tightly at first, but at this moment, as if being bitten by a poisonous snake, she suddenly threw away his hand. She stood up and took two steps backward, looking at him suspiciously. Suppressing her hard breathing, she said in a voice like a heartbreaking mother would, “You… you want your mother to die…”

After all, Yong Shan was still only a teenager. In the end, he couldn’t bear to listen to her sorrowful cry. He lowered his eyes, and after a very long time did he slowly say, “You wanting Yong Qi to die, means you also want me to die. Mother, do you really dislike me so much?” He couldn’t help but let out a long sigh.

Shu Fei’s hatred was too extreme, but after listening to his long sigh, as if the depression and desolation from all his lifetime were all accumulated in it, making her feel like he was a person in the boundless sea, with bitterness and helplessness, all swept from all directions directly at him. Looking intently, the person in front of her had exactly the same eyebrows and nose bridges as Yong Lin, except that he didn’t have the same naughty and loveable expression as Yong Lin, was there anything that he couldn’t be compared to Yong Lin?

Shu Fei couldn’t help but feel soft. She took two steps forward and sat down slowly on the bedside. Stretching out her hand and gently hugging Yong Shan’s shoulders, she said softly, “Silly child, how could mother dislike you? I only worry that you forgot that this is the Palace. The so-called love may be precious in other places, but in the Palace, it is nothing but worthless. Even if you sacrifice everything for Yong Qi, sacrifice your position, sacrifice Yong Lin, your mother, or even sacrifice yourself, in the end, there will only be separation and heartbreak.”

Yong Lin had been embraced by Shu Fei countless times since he was a child, but for Yong Shan, it was rare.

Being gently embraced by Shu Fei, a warmth in his heart wandered straight into all of his limbs. He involuntarily shook Shu Fei’s hand and squeezed it gently, “Don’t worry, mother. It’s not Yong Qi or Yong Lin who did it. It was me.”

Shu Fei was confused and slightly surprised when she heard that. She was about to ask clearly, suddenly a rush of footsteps came in from the outside.

Chang Defu ran in, with a trace of anxiety on his face, “Your Highness, Consort Shu, His Royal Highness Yong Sheng is here with Imperial doctor Chen.”

“Imperial doctor?” Shu Fei suddenly stood up and shouted.

Chang Defu hadn’t spoken yet, when Yong Sheng and the Imperial doctor Chen had already arrived at the door. They walked directly into Yong Shan’s bedroom in a magnificent manner.
